Kenneth Douglas Horne

My name is Meg MacDonald. Mr. Horne was my 7th grade science teacher in 1966 and I’ve often reflected that practically everything I know about chemistry and biology, I learned from him. Ken was my Scoutmaster for many years. Troop 525! I also attended Forward Jr High and Brandywine High School (BHS '76) where he was a teacher. I feel inadequate to express the impact of Ken on my young life and my sorrow at his passing. He was everything the founder of Scouting, Baden Powell imagined a Scoutmaster might or could be: kind, wise, generous in spirit, a mentor, a role model, a teacher, a guide. He taught soft, spoiled suburban kids like me how to survive in the wilderness...

So sad to hear of Kens passing. He was a wonderful human being, too many good words to describe him. I met Ken at Richardson Park UMC, helped him with the youth group. He had the best hugs ever. He brought Walk to Emmaus to our church and I was the first to go on that life changing walk. God worked marvelous things through Ken and he will always be remembered and in my heart. RIP, you are now home❤

A great man and an excellent teacher. As a lifelong educator, I look back at having Mr. Horne as a teacher in both 7th and 9th grade and realize that he was one of the reasons why I went into education. 30 some years later and I still have fond memories of his classes.

Ken's passion for coaching swimming and soccer, teaching and scouting, was extraordinary. He impacted young and old, with dedication and generosity. He shared love and heaven on earth. Peace
