Kenneth Hough

As are many other Blue Knight alumni, I am saddened to learn of Mr. Hough's passing. A fine man, a wonderful headmaster at College Prep; I too will never forget his performances of "O Holy Night" at our December student assemblies. My condolences to his family from this Class of '77 member.

I am so sad to learn of Kenneth's death. We had just found one another through Facebook after years of no contact. He came to Laurens when we were in the third grade, and we became close friends until graduation. He sang at our wedding fifty three years ago. Dear Ann and family. I just heard of Kenneth's death from Margaret McIntyre in Laurens. we "lost" touch with you 10 + years ago. I had unsuccessfully searched for you in Hendersonville. Finding you this way was a shock as wwe had been such good friends for so long. Ann, my Daddy,a physican, said that one of God's greatest gifts was sudden death. It was such a shock to hear from my mother today of Ken's death. The principal who helped my brother Buff graduate from College Prep, my "boss" when I was an English teacher at College Prep, my "savior" when I passed out on my desk after coming back to school after childbirth and an appendectomy, the friend with whom I spent many an evening singing, saying an Advent prayer, laughing with Ann, and watching his beautiful daughters grow up,this exceptionally beautiful, sensitive, talented man...

I have fond memories of Mr Hough telling me of my college acceptance, of his singing O Holy Night, and putting pressure on my temples when I had a headache. Ken Hough was a shining example of a true gentleman, and a great encourager. Transferring to College Prep in 1971, it was abundantly clear to me I was an outsider, struggling to stay afloat in the stringent academic environs of College Prep. Mr. Hough quickly assessed my situation, and in his own quiet style became a trusted mentor and friend. Kenneth Hough truly was the cornerstone of College Prep. Only his Creator knows the full,and wonderful impact...

Mr. Hough was my English teacher my sophomore year of high school. I will never forget listening to him tell stories from his past with such enthusiasm and excitement. He would even break out a song in operah for us if we begged him long enough. He was a delightful teacher and always had a smile on his face. He told us the story of how he met his wife, and he had read us a poem he wrote for her for Valentine's Day one year. He will be truly missed!

Gail and I were very sorry to learn of Ken's death. He was a man of many parts : educator, entrepreneur,chef,bird enthusiast,and gifted vocalist, among them. His zest for life and warm heart informed his positive influence upon scores of College Prep students and faculty. He was a good friend and mentor to me. Sending deepest condolences. I attended College Prep the very first year it opened on Archdale Street. Ken Hough made the school a success. It was a fantastic school and I am grateful today to have attended it. Ken was a fabulous mentor and role model and was very admired by the students.
