Mr Konicek was always so kind to me - he saw I was running myself ragged senior year, and allowed me for a time to sit quietly in his office during the first part of band rehearsals. It mattered to me that I was seen and valued. And he appreciated me as a musician, which I dedicated my life to. Thank you, Mr Konicek, and my condolences to his familyNancy Gantose Maier, class of 1970

So many fond memories of "Kenny K" during my 4 years, while in the band, at Brooklyn . He always strove for excellence which would show up with the awards garnered by the marching, symphonic and concert bands bringing a bit of tOSU performance level with him. He made you work and practice, but it paid off. Pretty sure I still have a copy of the record the symphonic/concert band recorded. Now, to see if I've got a functioning turntable. Gary Zath '76

I was a student of Ken's, Brooklyn High School class of 1974. Mr. "K", was a great teacher/musician, incredible mentor, and wonderful leader. I chose music teaching as a career because of his influence and teaching. His love for his craft and students is unmatched and I am forever grateful for his guidance, support, and encouragement throughout my high school years. He continued to be a great mentor and supporter throughout my career. I am the Director of bands at Kansas State University...

Ken Konicek was the most important, constant person in my high school career. He came to BHS when I was in the 7th grade. I have so many memories of bus trips, marching band, concert band, the friends I made in band. He let us spend our study halls hanging out in the practice rooms. He - and the atmosphere and structure he created - was crucial to me surviving a very troubled childhood. I have often thought of reaching out to him to let him know how important he was in my life. I'm sorry I...

Mr. Konicek was the best! A gifted teacher. A wonderful human being. He helped me survive high school. High school was so hard for me. Marching band with Mr. K gave me a much needed escape and secure place. I wasn't a very good musician but he made me feel important. He even told me once that he wanted me to lead my line so not to worry about playing my Altonium. I wouldn't have made it through high school without my dog and Mr. K. He truly saved me with his caring and support. May he enjoy...
