On Jan. 19, 2015, after a life well lived, Kenneth Simon "Opa" Laufer, M.D., 77, returned to the cosmos. His journey began on Nov. 29, 1937, in Trenton, N.J., born to Margaret (McNamara) and Milton Laufer. Shortly after his arrival, the family relocated to Jackson Heights, N.Y., where Milton, a...

Not sure what to say?

Ken invited me stay at his place in Girdwood on weekends, as a medical student in 1996. I have some wonderful memories of skiing with him, Rebekah and "Bones". 25 years later, my wife and I drove around Girdwood trying to find the house that he had built. We never found it. Thanks again to him and his family for the hospitality. He lived a full life. He told me a story once of driving along the Turnagain arm on his way home from work. I still miss Ken nine years out from his passing. And I'm still using one of the two inflatable kayaks we researched and bought together and then flew down to Utah to float the Escalante River in 1998. Ken flew down his dog, Lolo, who accompanied him on the float. They were inseparable. I wish Ken and I were still adventuring together.

Miss you Ken Randy

Ken was a college friend who really stood out for his warmth, intelligence and wit. We both moved on but I still miss him.

Dr.Laufer was my physician and friend for many decades. I truly miss him and wish him well with god. His son is my physician now, and he carries on his fathers' caring and spirit every time I see him. May he carry on the family tradition of the Hyppocratic oath.

Ken and I used to have coffee every morning and have a chat about India and other things in the world.

He was a great guy and it always impressed me and moves me that he and his sister had brought the Ashes of their father all the way to Varanasi for immerssion in the holy Ganga.

Varanas Varanasian and still treasure the books he gifted me.

I was privileged to be a patient of Dr. Kenneth Laufer while he served in the U.S. Air Force at Elemendorf Air Force Base.

Ken was a great friend. I remember his adventurous spirit.
He was probably one of the last private pilots to fly his plane deep into the Grand Canyon. (A single engine Mooney Mite).
He had a lot of wisdom and compassion.
