Not sure what to say?

What wonderful memories I have of your Dad . I saw him last at My Dad's funeral in 2010 . He was a great man and both he and my Dad had a great bond . I hope they are having a beer together now and not bidding work :-) Carolyn Lawson (Al's Daughter)

Ken was a friend of my mothers at the U of O and wrote several letters to her from his time in europe iN 1939. After reading one with her we googled his name and found his family. If you would like to see them call her at (503)371-6982. Call her soon as she is almost 99 but is in good health, active, and a joy to talk to.

The family wants each of you know that we appreciate your thoughtful and enlightening messages. Thanks so much for taking the time to share.

Sincerely yours,

Arlene, Tim, Stu, Lee, Chau, Cathy, Kelsey

Love and miss you, Uncle Kenny!!!

The first day we arrived in Portland we were picked up and brought to Ken's home in Southwest Portland. His house is located at the dead end of 42nd street, next to a creek.
We were told that he had designed and built it himself. The house itself is not a big one. There are 3 bedrooms, and a basement with a ping-pong table where he had weekly games with his friends.
We have known him for more than 41 years. I first arrived here at the age of 24, now I have reached retirement age. During...

A remarkable LONG life well lived...we have SO many memories with the Leatherman family. Ken was quite a guy - last visit with him at my mother's memorial service in June...special to think on that. We offer Tim and Stuart and Arlene all our fondest condolences at this sad time.

Ken recalls his logging days

We were saddened to learn about Ken's passing. He certainly lived a full and interesting life! We were honored that Ken and Arlene were at our wedding in 1974. Hearing him tell about his experiences as a logger in the 1930s when Ken, Tim and Wayne went to an antique logging demonstration at Pomeroy Farms a few years ago was fascinating. During his 90th birthday celebration we were captivated when we learned some of the details of his experiences in the Merchant Marine during WW-II. We...

Tim and Chau,
Condolences on your loss. Your father was clearly a sterling influence on you and a positive influence for the community.

What a remarkable human being!

Mr. Leatherman was one of my all time favorites from the Great Generation. I would often talk with him when he was walking in the neighborhood and be informed and delighted by his wonderful stories. One of my favorites was his leaving Europe in September of 1939 as Hitler was invading Poland. I would encounter him at other times going out or coming back from a fishing trip or reading at the Hillsdale Library. The last time that we talked, he was...
