I admired and loved Dr. McCarthy. He was a joy to work with at USM and his history classes were the most interesting that I took. RIP

I was a better educator because of the example set by Dr. McCarty while I was in graduate school. I counted it a blessing to see him through the years at meetings of the MS Historical Society. He was always inquisitive about my work and was such an encourager. Thanks be to God for his rich life and the gifts he gave so many of us. Martha Hutson

We send many prayers and condolences to his wife Sylvia, and the rest of his beloved family. Dr. McCarty will always hold a special place in our...

Melinda and Family, my sincerest condolences to you and your family. I took history at USM in your fathers class and it was one of the few classes I remember of my college days. Your dad captivated us with fantastic stories. One of the few books I have read was for his class called Rebel Yell. I still remember parts of that book today. His class was fantastic and I always thought fondly of him and that class. Wish I had taken more classes from him. ((HUGS)) FIONA BOWEN HATTIESBURG,MS /...
