NYLANDER, Kenneth Carl - Age 69, of Grand Blanc, died Sunday, September 28, 2008 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 6, 1938 in Flint, Michigan, to Carl and May Nylander. He attended Grand Blanc High School and U of M Flint. He married Phyllis Main in 1961 and they enjoyed 47 happy years together. He was employed by General Motors for 25 years and EDS for 10 years, before retiring in 1995. He was a charter member of the Goodrich Lions Club and chaired the food basket drive for many years. He served 8 years on the Goodrich School Board. He was a long standing member of Goodrich United Methodist Church, serving on many committees and heading the pastie making team. He was a member of the Swedish organization VASA, Viking Lodge 730. He loved to travel with his family and spend time at the family cottage on Otsego Lake. He enjoyed golf and a good book and was a "pun"-loving father. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; 3 daughters and their families: Susie and Kevin Harlow, Stephen and Sarah; Nancy and Joe Shucofsky, Ryan and Kyle; Karin and Shawn Smith, Hayley and Becca. He was preceded in death by his sister, Janet Maule. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Family Life Center of Goodrich United Methodist Church or Goodrich Lions Charities. The family would like to thank Pastor Karl L. Zeigler and the SICU staff at Genesys Regional Medical Center for the special care that Ken and the family received. Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 1, 2008 1-4 and 6-9PM at the Swartz Funeral home, 1225 West Hill Road. The funeral service will be held at 11AM Thursday, October 2, 2008 at Goodrich United Methodist Church, with visitation from 10AM until the time of the service. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Grand Blanc. Ken was the ultimate family man and will be dearly missed by many extended family and friends. Sorry to read of your loss. Ken and I served on the school board and I got a good understanding of a great guy. My comfort to you. You may remember that my Carolyn passed away last year after our 43 years of marriage and thus I feel I know how much you will miss him.
