Stensby, Kenneth Norman On Sunday, May 5, 2013, Kenneth N. Stensby, avid adventurer, lover of life and dedicated family man died after a fall while hiking in Yosemite National Park. Ken died the way he lived: with a bold spirit, a zest for adventure, and a passion for physical challenge. He died doing what he loved, but his first and foremost love was for his family; this compassionate and generous man would grieve deeply for the sorrow now experienced by his loving wife of 49 years, Darlene Auger Stensby; daughters, Heidi Stensby (Sooze Hickman) and Angel Bulera (Todd); brother Gary Stensby (Merijean); brother-in-law Terry Auger (Wanda); six grandchildren, Kyle Bulera, Zach McQuade, Madeline Shaw, Nicholas Shaw, Patch Bulera, and Finn Bulera; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends. Ken is preceded in death by beloved daughter, Robin; sister, Audrey Palen Quinn; brother-in-law, Gary Auger; parents, Ed and Ann Stensby; and in-laws, Reuben and Elaine Auger. Ken was a graduate of Carleton College and went on to a brilliant career in the local commercial real estate market, serving for 28 years as President of United Properties. He retired at 55 in order to spend more time with family and to pursue his passion for travel, sailing, biking, hiking skydiving, digital photography, and many other interests. Ken had a keen wit and a bright mind and proudly considered himself to be a lifelong learner. A memorial service will be held at Colonial Church, 6200 Colonial Way in Edina, on Monday, May 20 at 11 AM with a reception to follow at the church. Friends and family are encouraged to write down and bring or send a favorite memory of Ken to be placed in a book for the younger grandchildren so they may come to know their extraordinary Abpa/Bappa better. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and may be directed to the Kenneth N. Stensby Memorial Family Fund - which will be used to assist Ken's grandchildren with their educations. Please send contributions to Darlene Stensby or to US Bank (7001 France Avenue South; Edina, MN 55435). Ken took to heart the words he and Darlene had carved onto a favorite piece of furniture: Go out for adventure. Come home for love. These he did with all his heart. He and his radiant smile will be deeply missed.

Not sure what to say?

Ken Contacted me in 2012 regarding Stensby cousins. I couldn't quite put the relationship together, only that my mother (Elenor) was a Stensby from Wisconsin and then Minnesota. Less than a year later was the unfortunate accident at Yosemite. To his survivors, I'd like to say our common ancestor was Edward Stensby and Martha Hannevold. My grandfather, Peter Stensby was the oldest child. I believe Ken's father (or possibly grandfather) was either Anton, Edward, or Henry. I met sisters...

I worked with Ken at UP. Yes, he was a strong leader; respected and admired by all who knew him. I dont remember what I posted regarding Ken in 2013 but a memory that comes to mind when I do think of Ken, is seeing him at Roccos (then in the Galleria) having his haircut with his young granddaughter sitting on his lap. Such a sweet memory. It warmed my heart then as it does today.

We were so sorry to hear of Ken passing on. What a shock for us to hear about this when we were up in Minnesota this past September. I will pass this info onto Liz Naslund, who was always fond of Darlene and Ken. May God grant you peace. What a lesson in how short our lives are on this earth. He is walking the gold streets of heaven now.

I will say a prayer from Los Angeles.

Darlene - I was so surprised and sorry to hear of Kenny's death. Please know that you and your family are in my prayers. I have fond memories of you and Kenny falling in love at Zion, at the same time Roger and I were falling in love there.

My sympathies to the Stensby family. I was in Gary's confirmation class at Zion. My husband and I just recently moved back to Mn from Va. I have so many fond memories of Zion and all the wonderful classmates and Pastor Martin.:) May you all find comfort in the love of Christ.

I recall biking with Ken for 7 miles in 2003 during the St. Paul Classic. Out conversations about travel, is something I still recall to this day. I felt during that conversation, that it could of gone on for anther 15 miles. An open person during our conversation.

Dearest Darlene, Heidi and family,

My heart is so saddened by the grief you are experiencing. I have continued to pray God is holding you in His arms as you walk this difficult journey. There is peace in knowing that when you are reunited there will be rejoicing in Heaven.

May God bless, uplift, comfort and keep you!

In Christ,
Cherie and Dick Middleton

Dear Stensby Family - I am so, so sorry for the loss of your husband/dad/grandpa. Though I had not seen Ken in years, I have a cherished memory of him when he ran the Boston Marathon with my mom, Mary Lou, and another running friend, Tina, in 1985 (I think). Ken rented a limo for us and I remember touring Boston, laughing and having just a wonderful time. Ken was generous, fun, and quite the athlete. He touched many, many people and he will be very missed.
