I too remember Dad cooking Sunday breakfasts. That was his specialty. He grilled too but when he cooked breakfast, it was family time. Grits, eggs, bacon, sausage and BISCUITS! nom nom. He was a draftsman and engineer for our local shipbuilding industry. He was a child of the depression, so there wasn't a thing he wouldn't do to be frugal. He wasn't particularly gifted but highly intelligent, and this provided a home for us until we were married And again when we'd return after life failures....

I remember all the good times, Sunday morning home made biscuits before church, special occasional treat of home made root beer, & going fishing, sleep in heavenly peace


My ex wife and I were married 30 years, together with dating, 33 or so. It is needless to say. her family became mine. Her Father passed away yesterday. He was a spiritual, country, coarse, strong willed, pig headed man. He was of a generation that. "did" not whine about their plight, they just got the job done. It mattered not what the task was, they did it. from building, canning, gardening or working, it was non stop and selfless. I almost never saw things his way, on any topic yet, I...
