WHITEAKER, Kenneth W. II - Of Fenton, age 66, died peacefully on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, November 29, 2009 at Faith Lutheran Church, 12534 Holly Road, Grand Blanc, Pastor Wayne H. Wentzel officiating. Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery with Military Honors at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 1, 2009. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Concordia University in Ann Arbor. Visitation 4-8 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m.- 3 p.m. Sunday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. Mr. Whiteaker will be at the church from 5 p.m. Sunday until the time of the service. Kenneth was born in Globe, Arizona on June 11, 1943, the son of the late Kenneth and Gladys (Hicks) Whiteaker and was a resident of the Flint area since 1972. He was a 1961 graduate of Kemper Military School in Kirkwood, Missouri. On March 11, 1969 he married Sondra S. Curp. He served in the U.S. Army until 1972 in Vietnam and also was part of the National Security Association. In 1997 he was ordained a Lay Minister and a Parish Leadership Specialist from Concordia University in Ann Arbor. He enjoyed Bible study, fishing, gardening, playing cards and was an avid carpenter. Mr. Whiteaker was employed for 25 years with the Flint Board of Education, retiring in 1996. Surviving are wife, Sondra; three sons, Dennis, Martin and Kenneth III; two grandchildren, Andrew (Jin-Won) Whiteaker, Toni Jo (Jason) Vanover; one great-grandson, Luke James Whiteaker; sister, Ella (Harold) Johnson of Kingman, Arizona; nephew, Terry (Brenda) Johnson of Las Vegas, Nevada and cousin, Karen (Forrest) McNulty of Burbank, California.
