Kermit A. LaBar, 77, of Ackermanville, PA, passed away Thursday, November 5th, at his residence.

Kermit was born in Ackermanville, PA on March 15, 1938, the son of the late Gerald "Pete" and Mabel (Kessler) LaBar.

He was the husband of Barbara (Lambert) LaBar. They celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary last May. Kermit was employed as an owner and operator of the former Speers Market in Bangor, PA, until retiring in 2007. Prior to that he was employed as a fireman on the former Lehigh- New England Railroad in Pen Argyl, PA. He was a 1956 graduate of Bangor High School.

Kermit was a member of Ackermanville United Methodist Church in Ackermanville, PA. He was also a member and past president of the Bangor Exchange Club, life member of the Bangor Elks Lodge 1106, and former member of the Slate Belt Chamber of Commerce. He was awarded in 2005 as Business Man of the year by the Slate Belt Chamber of Commerce, and he was recognized in 1991 by the Cub Scouts.

In addition to his loving wife, Barbara, Kermit is survived by two sons, Scott LaBar and his wife, Mary Jo, and Gregg LaBar, a brother, Robert LaBar, and 4 grandchildren, Emily, Zachary, Regina, and Marisa. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter Pysher and Delbert LaBar, and a grandson, Joseph Allen LaBar.

Funeral services will be held at Ackermanville United Methodist Church, 1410 Ackermanville Road, Bangor, PA, at 11 AM on Monday, November 9th. Friends are invited to call Sunday 5-8 PM and Monday 10-11 AM in the church. Burial will be held at Plainfield Cemetery, Plainfield Twp., PA. Arrangements have been entrusted to the James B. Gaffney Funeral Home, Bangor, PA. Online condolences may be made at gaffneyparsons.com.

Kermie, A hard worker, always busy but took time to talk to everybody. We will miss his witty humor, not to mention the best ring bologna around. Fond memories of waiting at Larry Jewells on saturday mornings for Kermie to come and deliver his famous steaks and treats. He was a big part of Bangors history and will be missed buy many. Our sincere condolences go out to Barb, Scott,and Gregg and the rest of the family. May you rest in peace.

Kermie, best known on High Street, East Bangor as the 'bologna man' will be missed. The kids all stopped what they were doing,came running and waited for there Saturday treat. Then, there was suet for suet pudding and pastie meat for me. He certainly was a fun loving person. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.
