Obituary

Kevin J. Malone, of San Rafael, California, passed away at age 57 on June 16, 2019. Kevin was raised in Calumet Park, Illinois and Lincolnwood, Illinois. He was the fifth of the six children of Tom & Gerry Malone. He moved to California in 1989, but frequently came home for visits. In addition to seeing family and friends, he needed a regular fix of Chicago pizza and beef sandwiches!

To say that Kevin loved sports is a huge understatement. In addition to all of the Chicago teams (Go Cubs Go!), Kevin was a childhood fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Boston Red Sox. When Kevin moved to California, he learned to love the San Francisco Giants, the San Francisco 49ers, and the Golden State Warriors. If you ever needed to know a sports fact, Kevin was your guy! For many years, Kevin was an umpire for the Over 40 Mens Softball League in Corte Madera, California. He knew the rules and was always fair.

Kevin enjoyed spending time with friends and family. He also liked talking to them on the phone. Many people will miss hearing, Kevin's "Hello there." very much.

Kevin was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Tom Malone, and his sister, Jeanne Deinert. He is survived by his siblings, Karen Stapleton (Jim), Jim Malone (Rose), and Laurie Malone, his sister-in-law, Verna Malone, and Aunt Nancy Lettiere. Kevin was a beloved uncle to Jamie Stapleton (Kelly), Kristy Stapleton, Shannon Malone, Renee Deinert, Darrin Deinert, Erin Malone, Douglas Deinert, Katie Malone, Jenny Malone, Tom Malone, Robby Stapleton, Maggie Stapleton, Hunter Stapleton, Zach Deinert, Shane Deinert, and Sam Massano. Kevin was a devoted friend to many in the Chicago area and Marin County, California. He had a huge heart, a big smile, and will be missed every day.

Friends and family are invited to attend Kevin's Celebration of Life at Prairie Lakes Community Center, 515 E Thacker Street, Des Plaines, Illinois on Sunday, June 30th at 2:30 pm. No need to dress up! Kevin wouldn't want everyone to suffer in dresses and neckties! Feel free to wear the gear of your favorite sports team!

If you would like to make a donation in Kevin's name, the American Heart Association would be a great choice.

A second celebration will take place in California at a later time.

Not sure what to say?

I just heard that Kevin had died. He will be missed. Over the past 15 years that I have been playing in the Corte Madera mens softball league, Kevin was one person I enjoyed seeing. He was always there, year after year, to start off a new mens softball season. There was nothing anyone could say to him that he hadnt heard already and he always kept his cool. Believe me, in guys softball you are going to hear a lot. If you played catcher, you would be entertained by his humor laced...

The first time I met Kevin, was many years ago. He was an Umpire at Town Park. I was on a co-ed softball team. I slid into home plate, and he called me out, I said I was safe..
and I kicked dirt on his shoes. He then yelled "you're out!" A few years later I started working at the Corte Madera Parks and Rec and that's how I bumped into Kevin again, and we became friends. I will miss his laugh and funny conversations we used to have. My heart goes out to his Family.

I was so sad to hear of Kevin's passing. I too was a bartender at the flatiron in the 90's and "Malone" was a staple. He never had a bad word to say about anyone & always had a smile on his face. He was truly a kind and gentle soul. Sincere condolences to Kevin's family. May he rest in eternal peace.

My condolences to Kevins family. I was a bartender at the Flatiron Bar in San Rafael during the early 90s and got to know Kevin where he was a regular customer. Also played in mens over 40 softball teams and Kevin was often the umpire. Loved the way hed call an out with flair, exuberance and style. RIP Kevin Malone.

What a good guy me and Kevin worked a lot of games together I learned a lot working with him RIP good buddy
