Known as a man with a soothingly calm voice and quick wit, Kevin Moriarty was a boy from Brooklyn, born on March 25, 1947 to Maurice and Margaret (née O’Neill) Moriarty.  He was a master wordsmith and an exhilarating conversationalist.  His voice was peacefully silenced on June 9, 2021.

Kevin was a talented writer who had a knack for using his incredible people skills to enhance public relations literature.  He could turn a stale leaflet into a work of art with his eloquent flair for language.  He spent twenty-plus years working as a doorman for a high-end building on Sutton Place, where coworkers and tenants alike were spellbound by his ability to enthrall them with a story or an anecdote, or to recommend a good book tailored just to the listener’s taste.

He was known to his friends and family for being as kind as he was intelligent. He could never say no to a friend in need.  He loved to enjoy a tall glass of Coca-Cola and watch NCAA Basketball.  He watched Jeopardy nightly and almost flawlessly answered the clues as if his life savings were on the line.

Kevin was a loving and beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend.  He is survived by his daughters Erin and Mary and his sons Conor and Brandon; his grandchildren Fiona, Patrick, Conor (CJ), Barbara, Tristan, Lucy, and Manuela; his sister Maria and brother-in-law John, and his best friend Jeremiah (Jerry).  He will be sorely missed and fondly remembered.

Not sure what to say?

We live in the building where Kevin worked and have had the pleasure and privilege of getting to know Kevin for over 16 years. A fellow crossword enthusiast, Kevin and I would often discuss the challenges we encountered in the Sunday NY Times crossword puzzle. Kevin had a wonderful vocabulary and a sharp sense of humor and we would look forward to discussing the news of the day with Kevin's witty spin on events. He always entertained us with baby boomer references that he knew we would...

I grew up in the building where Kevin worked for more than 20 years. When I started coming home to visit from college, I would end up getting to my mom's apartment several hours later than promised, because I never wanted to stop talking to Kevin. I do not exaggerate when I say that I used to easily pass hours and hours talking with him about books, people, and the many other topics on which he spoke so insightfully and, quite often, so pithily. Kevin was so brilliant at turning a phrase in...

My deepest sympathy and condolences to the entire MORARITY FAMILY. My heart is heavy at the loss of Kevin. I truly loved him, we were very close and a wonderful friend. Our special friendship lasted for 35years. I will miss our talks, but grateful to have him in my life......I will miss you my dear FRIEND
Love you always...Margarette Johnson, NewOrleans, La.

Kevin was an elegant and romantic writer and poet. He went to Trinity College in Dublin and he mastered all of the finest Irish writers. He took after his mother, Madge in her love of the written word and fine art. He inherited his father, Maurice's compassion and kindness towards all around him. Kevin was a true Renaissance man in every sense of that definition. May his children be touched with his poetic soul and his kindness towards all of his brethren on this earth.
