Kevin Rooney Obituary

Kevin P. Rooney passed away January 1, 2021, losing his battle with stomach cancer. He was 67 years old. Kevin was born on July 28, 1953 in Albany, NY to Phillip and Charlotte (Salisbury) Rooney. He grew up in Delmar, New York and graduated from Bethlehem Senior High School in 1971. Just a few years later, he moved way out west to California. The Rocky Mountains were calling and he moved to Colorado towards the end of the 1970s. On January 9, 1980, while waiting for the bus in Boulder, CO, Kevin met the love of his life, Teresa Bordash. They were married in April of 1984 in Longmont, CO, where they moved about a year after the wedding. Together, Kevin and Teresa brought into the world a daughter, Katie, making Kevin a father for the second time. Kevin is also the father of a daughter, Shawnee Keyes, from a previous marriage. Being a father was one of the greatest blessings of his life. Kevin most recently worked at Longmont King Soopers as a produce clerk, for the past 17 years, retiring in 2018. He loved his job and his customers. Because of his outgoing spirit, loyalty, and incredible work ethic, his customers loved him, too. Kevin loved music, especially Rock & Roll. He enjoyed working out in his home gym, making fitness an important part of his daily life. He also enjoyed the occasional trip up the mountains to play the slots in Central City. Kevin was a man of great Faith. He felt close to God and he was ready to go Home. Kevin was loved and he will be missed. Kevin was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his beautiful wife, Teresa; his daughters, Shawnee (Kevin) Keyes and Katie (Ian) Smith; his granddaughters, Kayla Graham and Ella Keyes; his brother Frank (Kerrilynn) Rooney and his sister Marianne Rooney; many nieces and nephews; and Shawnee's mother, Sandra Norris. A Private Family Graveside Service was held and Kevin was laid to rest at Foothills Gardens of Memory. I am truly sorry to hear of Kevins passing. I worked with Kevin for many years at store 80. I always looked forward to working with him on a daily basis. We joked and laughed every time we worked together and i can truly say he was one of my favorite people I have ever had in my life. He always spoke fondly of his family and loved them all. I will never forget how much he enjoyed music and how he would take breaks in his car, i asked him what he listened to on break and he said nothing since he took the knobs off the radio because it was broken and he was too cheap to get a new one. I have lots of happy memories of Kevin and our time together. He will truly be missed.

I graduated from Bethlehem Central High School with Kevin, Frank and Kerrilynn in 1971. I am so sorry for your loss, Frank and Kerrilynn. Losing a sibling so young must be hard.

I moved out west like Kevin (I’ve lived in Seattle since 1980) and continue to have strong family ties to Delmar like you do. I am hoping we will have a 50th Reunion sometime this year and very sorry Kevin won’t join us.

Take care as best you can. Janet Primomo

Let the tears and love flow....Big Hugs to all of us who grieve the ways we will miss you in our daily lives, your presence will paly hide and seeks from the other of the veil to catch a quick glint of your amazingly soft smiles.... To Kevin's family, I am a King Soopers shopper of 40 plus years and not all grocery store workers have a smile on their face. Kevin was the most pleasant and always had a smile on his face and I've missed him since he's been retired. Peace be with his family during this time of sadness.

I often visited with Kevin in the produce section of King Soopers. On the day I learned of my mother's death he took the time to listen as I told him a story or two about her. I knew he wasn't well and I'd ask a certain produce employee how he was getting along. Even this past week I was thinking of him as I shopped for veggies. May this gentle man rest in peace.

"Hey Kid."
I was blessed to work with "Rooney" at King Soopers and occasionally we would cross paths around town in Longmont. He always had that bright, loving smile on his face. Nothing seemed to bring him down. He will be missed by his extended family of co-workers. Rest in peace my friend.

Our Burns family and Rooney family spent many wonderful weekends together swimming and picnicking in Lake George And Thacher Park. We were sorry to read of Kevin´s passing and offer our sympathy to his wife, daughters, Frank, Kerrilyn and MaryAnn. Hopefully Kevin is now at peace with his mom and dad. God Bless.
