Brooklawn Funeral Home - Rocky Hill Obituary

Kevin Brian Sweeney died on August 6, 2022, at Hartford Hospital at the age of 60, surrounded by his loving family. Kevin was born on December 11, 1961, in Norwich, CT to Mary Elizabeth (Shea) Sweeney and the late Paul Joseph Sweeney. He was the loving father of Kristen Michelle (Sweeney) Rapisarldi, grandfather to Gianna and Luca, and devoted partner to Carmela Calafiore.

Kevin graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 1979 and went on to graduate from Boston College, class of 1983. He received his MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1995. For more than 30 years, he worked in information technology at Aetna, rising the ranks to Executive Director of CVS Health following its acquisition of Aetna.

Kevin lived his Christian values through action. He woke up each day with an agenda to do good and impacted the lives of many through his generosity, relentless positivity, and dry sense of humor and wit. Kevin had a unique ability to make those around him laugh and feel much better about themselves at the same time. Kevin was “all in,” could always be counted on, and was true to his word. His family benefited from his selflessness as did countless members of his community. As a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus, he was responsible for leading coat drives and serving meals to those in need. In addition to his kindness and sense of humor, Kevin had an incredibly sharp mind and was recognized in the top ten of his high school class with countless academic honors.

Kevin was most proud of being a father. His daughter Kristen was his world, and he was elated to walk her down the aisle to her husband Sal, and more recently hold his two beloved grandchildren.

Kevin was incredibly fortunate to meet Carmela, his life partner who shared his love for family and brought immense joy to him and the whole extended Sweeney family. With Carmela, Kevin leaves behind a luscious garden, which he referred to as his “jardino,” with no shortage of delicious vegetables to be shared with others to enjoy.

Kevin was very proud of his Irish heritage, but also enjoyed his “adopted” Italian heritage with meals in Boston’s North End and Providence’s Federal Hill. He never missed a Birthday and loved to celebrate your special day. He was also an avid Boston sports fan.

Kevin is survived by his mother Mary Sweeney, his partner Carmela Calafiore, his daughter Kristen Rapisarldi, son-in-law Salvatore Rapisarldi, and grandchildren Gianna Rose and Salvatore Luca Rapisarldi. He is also survived by his six siblings: Joyce Sweeney, Paul Sweeney, Susan Sweeney Walsh, Sheila Sweeney Hummel, John Sweeney, Patrick Sweeney, brother-in-law John Walsh, sister-in-law Nancy Sweeney, and his nieces Kathryn Walsh Narrow (David), Cate Sweeney, Margaret Sweeney, Alexa Sweeney, and nephews Christopher Sansone, Jack Walsh, Zack Hummel, Brian Sweeney, Andrew Hummel, and Michael Walsh, along with many cousins, aunts, an uncle, members of the Calafiore and Rapisarldi family, and loved ones.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Thursday August 11th at St. Elizabeth Seton Church in Rocky Hill, CT. Visitation will be held from 4pm – 7pm on Wednesday August 10th at Brooklawn Funeral Home, 511 Brook St., Rocky Hill, CT. If anyone is so inclined, donations may be sent to the Knights of Columbus https://www.cromwellkofc.com, Mass General Cancer Center please specify Neuroendocrine and Pituitary Tumor Clinical Center, or the Neuroendocrine Research Laboratory at Massachusetts General Hospital in his memory https://giving.massgeneral.org/donate.

To the Sweeney Family --we were so saddened to hear about the loss of Kevin. We have such fond memories of growing up together in Bozrah...we will keep Kevin and all of you in our prayers.

My sincere condolences to the entire Sweeney Family. May perpetual light shine upon Kevin. He was a very bright light in this world and he will be remembered always.

Such a great guy!!! I didn't have a relationship with Kevin at all outside of being in High School at NFA. However, with that said he certainly was always very kind to me and was my go-to for respectful humor. Per his obituary, sounds as if Kevin made a difference as a family man, professional and in the community. He left a positive footprint while here on earth. As far as premature and unexpected death goes, my grandmother always used to say "God takes the good ones first." May Kevin...

I worked with Kevin at Aetna/CVS for many years. Kevin was a true professional and was always was a great IT partner. My deepest and sincere condolences go out to the Sweeney family.
