Khalid Hameed MD, 88, peacefully passed away on June 3 surrounded by family and loved ones in Windsor, Ontario Canada. Dr. Hameed was a long time resident of both Sylvania, Ohio and Friendswood, Texas. Dr. Hameed was born on December 1, 1929 in Delhi, India to the parents Abdul Hameed Khan and Altaf Jehan Begum. He worked tirelessly as a pathologist at Flower Hospital in Sylvania for many years and then in retirement as an accomplished poet translating the Persian poetry of Amir Khosrow, Hafiz Shirazi, Mirza Ghalib and Allama Muhammad Iqbal both in Urdu and English as well as writing his own poems. He received many awards for his writings and published 14 books all post retiring as a physician at 70 years of age. Khalid Hameed Shaida, his pen name, means "mad lover" which is very appropriate. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Grace Hameed and two sons, Yusuf Hameed of Savannah, Georgia and Adam Hameed of Minneapolis, Minnesota as well as 6 grandchildren, 4 sisters and 2 brothers. He loved his family immensely and enjoyed spending time with all of them, but particularly his grandchildren. Dr. Hameed will be laid to rest on Friday, June 8 at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Houston, Texas and a service provided at the Islamic Society of Greater Houston at 9 am that morning and funeral prayer at Masjid Abubakr in Houston at 2 pm.. One particular poem that he wanted to share upon his passing is below: One night when I was in my bed An angel came to me and said That he had come to take me away Because he had heard that I was dead At first I thought it was only a dream That things are not what they often seem But soon I knew that he was right Because I tried and could not scream Then the angel told me not to cry And that we both were going to fly Far, far away from the Universe Away from stars and beyond the sky We flew and flew until we came To a place which had no real name And when I asked if it was hell or heaven He said things there were all the same And then he told me not to guess For this was the essence, more or less Of what was real and what was not This all-encompassing nothingness Khalid Hameed Shaida No donations or flowers are necessary

Not sure what to say?

I just bought his book on Hafiz. Tried to say few words of thanks then came to k ow that he passed away. May Allah bless his soul. I will always remember and grateful to him for his wonderful work.

In this journey we call life I've had the pleasure of meeting this wonderful person in The Bahamas. The conversations were always mind blowing, he will surely be missed.

We knew each other for many years- although I never met Marjorie I was looking forward to our meeting in September this year- never leave for tomorrow what you can do today- so I missed the opportunity to meet Khalid for the last time - Marjorie- Adam and Yussuf please accept my deepest sympathy on your sad bereavement. May Allah grant him peace in heaven. Miriam Stamatiou

We are so very sorry. We never met him but I had always hoped to. We had facebooked a lot. We certainly respect his emphasis on family and values. We know you will miss him. Prayers for your whole family.

Dr. Khalid Hameed was a depository of knowledge. One could talk to him about any topic. He was a composit of two very diversifies traits. One, he combined in him, the extremes of Eastern and Western Values - he was completely Eastern among the Eastern and completely Western among the Western people. Secondly, he was compulsively a hard worker; and an intensive lover. All his life he worked hard and loved with great passion. He was a poet of love with the pen name "SHAIDA" which means a lover...

Thank you for a lifetime of courage, wisdom, and kindness.
May gd bless always.
