Maj. Kip Taylor was excited about the coming months for two reasons very dear to him: the birth of his second child in late October and a promotion in November.

Now, his wife, Nancy, and family are gathered in his McLean, Va., home waiting to receive word that Taylor's remains have been recovered.

Taylor, among those missing at the Pentagon, had been stationed there for about three years, said his brother, U.S. Army Lt. Col. Dean Taylor.

"He was the poster boy for the U.S. Army," Taylor said.

The son of a career Army officer, Kip Taylor enlisted after graduating in 1985 from Northern Michigan University.

At the time of the attack, Taylor, 38, worked in the adjutant general's corps and was a key aide to Lt. Gen. Timothy Maude, who is also missing.

Taylor was soon to become Lt. Col. Taylor, his brother said, but delayed the ceremony until late November so relatives could attend. They also would see his new baby.

"It was going to be a meaningful thing," his brother said.

Not sure what to say?

Each year, I randomly pick a few names from the list of people who were taken from us on 09/11. This year, Kip was one of the names I picked to read about.

Although I never knew Kip, his strength is evident in the testimonies and memories of the people who knew him. I'm honored to read about his legacy, and may he live on in the hearts of the people who knew him. May he rest in peace, and may he never be forgotten.

From a generation that walked to school, played kick the can and flashlight tag it seems only fitting that someone from Ypsilanti says something in tribute. When my folks moved me to school in Ann Arbor and you off to Berlin, our time as neighbors had ended, but now as I consider the depth of your service I was privliged to call you friend, and to have known you when I did.

Kip, I miss you greatly, and mourn your loss daily. You made BAHS a special place for me. I always felt like an outcast, but you chose me as a friend, and you got me through some tough times. I love and miss you, and look to the day that I will see you again.

Our sincere condolences we send for the loss of Kip. Still very sadly missed and always remembered.

Sorry it took so long to get a flag up at my new place. I will never forget.

I am very sorry you passed away on 9/11. My thoughts go out to those who always miss you.

Kip and Nancy,
September 11th came and went yesterday. As is my custom, I spent some time reflecting on both of you and how we enjoyed our friendship back in McLean. I decided to check in on Dean and Luke to see what they are doing via social media. They look great and appear to be the successful young men that you would expect. Donna and Dean appear to have put them in a position to thrive. We think of you often. Gone, but never forgotten.
