Kristan Funeral Home - Mundelein Obituary

Visitation for Klaus Heinrich Schmidt will be Friday, October 13, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Saint Matthew Lutheran Church, 24500 North Old McHenry Road, Hawthorn Woods.  A memorial service will follow at 11:00 AM. Klaus was born March 9, 1930, in Burg in Dithmarschen, Germany, to Friedrich Wilhelm and Magdalene Schmidt, and passed away peacefully September 27, 2023 in his home in Mundelein. Klaus learned his carpentry craft in Germany. After immigrating to the U.S. and serving sometime in the Army, he married Rosemarie. Soon after, he started his own contracting company and began building custom homes in 1970. While he enjoyed golfing and going on trips with Rosemarie after his retirement, what he loved most of all was attending his grandchildren’s numerous activities and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his daughter Annette (Gary) Zabilka; son Mark (Chris) Schmidt; grandchildren Krista (Patrick) Volk, Katrina (Pauli) Lima, Karla (Joey) Limonciello, Emily (Jalen) Thomas, Kimberly (Romar) Corpuz, Kendra Schmidt, and Rebecca Schmidt; and eight great-grandchildren. Klaus is predeceased by his wife Rosemarie Schmidt and his daughter-in-law Lorraine Schmidt.

Not sure what to say?

Klaus was a kind, gentle, and caring person. We were fortunate to know him as the father of our son-in-law, and grandfather to four of our grandchildren. He will be missed

Klaus were my best big brother you will live in my heart forever❤

May your presence live in us for ever and ever amen

Opa was one of the kindest, warm hearted, funniest people around. He could turn your bad day upside down in 2 seconds with a joke even if your heard it 10 times before. Opa always understood and was there to listen. He loved & treated everyone equally. Most of all we will miss you.

May your forever dance with Oma begin

Love you Opa

Klaus was a gentle, kind man who was very talented in home building. I did aluminum work for Klaus for many years in the 80s and 90s. I would stop by his home in Hawthorn woods for business and always ended up staying longer than I expected. He helped me and shared his experience and vast knowledge when I was building my own home in Countryside Lake. He was a true GentlemanRob
