Kristy Kay Smith passed away March 24, 2026, in Sioux Falls, SD. She was born on November 10, 1972, in Sioux Falls, SD to Patricia and Floyd Matthies.
Kristy graduated from Lincoln High School in 1991 and went on to earn a degree in marketing.
Throughout her career, she worked in various marketing, retail, and restaurant roles, most recently serving as a manager at Falls Overlook Café.
She was previously married to Doug Smith, and together they were blessed with two children, Morgan and Levi. Kristy was a devoted mother, and her children were the center of her world.
Kristy enjoyed spending her free time with her two grandchildren, Hudson and Emerson Heumiller; her beloved dog, Zoey; and her granddog, Luna. She never missed a chance to cheer on her grandkids and took great pride in being part of their lives, as well as the lives of her niece and nephew. Kristy had a special way of making everyone feel like family, always ensuring they felt seen, heard, and truly valued. She found the most joy in being surrounded by friends and loved ones, especially when spending time outdoors.
Kristy’s love, laughter, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter, Morgan Heumiller (Cody), and her son, Levi Smith (Amelia Kolbach); her two grandchildren, Hudson and Emerson Heumiller; her sisters, Dawn Niess (Mick) and Tracey Hagen (Tim); her niece and nephew; and her stepfather, Daryl Pearson (Denise).
She was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia Pearson, and her father, Floyd Matthies.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 30, from 5–7 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home. Services will be held Tuesday, March 31, at 11:00 a.m. at Heritage Funeral Home. A luncheon will follow immediately after the service.
