KURT DOUGLAS GODWIN  
On Friday, September 19, 2014, Kurt Douglas Godwin passed away at INOVA Fairfax Hospital, due to stage 4 Cancer complications. Family was by his bedside. Kurt graduated from Groveton High School, and attended The Maryland Institute College of Art from 1977-1979. He received his BFA in painting from the Corcoran Cultural Institute of Art in Washington D.C. He later completed his MFA in painting from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. Kurt worked for the City of Alexandria for 12 years. In 1996 he became the Northern Virginia MIS Program Coordinator for VCU's off-campus Art program where he continued as Regional Coordinator, painting and drawing adjunct professor until present. From 2003-2011, he taught painting and 2-D Design at Catholic University of America in Washington DC. From 1999-2003 he taught in the Fine Arts/Core & Foundations program at the Corcoran College of Art and Design. Kurt is survived by his wife Karin, mother Ellen Godwin and her companion Victor Bremenkamp; two brothers, Craig and Eric Godwin; three step siblings, Jennifer, Chris and Valerie Gilman; and stepmother, Bobbie Gilman. He also was stepfather (aka Popz) to Alex Gutenson, Megin Kennett, and Jesse Kennett, and five grandchildren. Kurt's' life will be celebrated by friends and family at 5 p.m., at the Demaine Funeral Home in Springfield, VA, on Friday, September 26. A reception will follow at the Godwin home.
