Lacey Allen "Al" Jones Jr.

Lacey Allen "Al" Jones Jr. entered into the loving arms of his Savior on Monday, March 8, 2010, at the University of Virginia Medical Intensive Care Unit in Charlottesville, Virginia, at the age of 57.

He was the son of Susie Alice Nelson Jones Blakey and Lacey Allen Jones Sr. of Charlottesville, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents; his uncles, Obediah W. and Roosevelt L. Jones; and his aunt, Maggielean E. Jones Nicholas.

He surrendered his life to Christ at an early age through baptism at First Baptist Church, Main Street, Charlottesville, Virginia, and was currently a member of Zion Union Baptist Church, Charlottesville, Virginia.

He was educated in the Charlottesville Public School system and graduated from Lane High School in 1971. While attending Lane, he excelled academically and athletically in football and wrestling until he continued his education at Elizabeth City State University, North Carolina. He demonstrated exemplary loyalty and a strong work ethic during the more than 25 years that he was an employee of Tiger Fuel Company.

He was an avid music lover, motorist and had a strong affinity for motor cycles and stylish automobiles. More than that, he loved his family, community and life.

He will forever be remembered for his sense of humor, quick wit and tongue, fierce independence, infectious laugh, loving spirit and generosity. His inner strength, humility and willingness to serve others will always be an example to those who knew and loved him.

He leaves to cherish his memory and life a loving and devoted twin sister, Cynthia "Cindy" Jones Stratton and her husband, Glenn, of Charlottesville, Virginia; sisterss Lisa M. "Shell" Blakey and her husband, Clinton Waller Jr., of Richmond, Virginia, and Leslie "Rail" A. Pryor of Charlottesville, Virginia; one brother, Taber V. Martin and his wife, Dawn, of Charlottesville, Virginia; a loving and devoted niece, Charlsie Elizabeth Stratton of Charlottesville, Virginia; and nephew, Thomas Watson Stratton of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; a devoted cousin, Thomas B. Nelson of Woodbridge, Virginia; a constant and dedicated friend, Cleveland Michie Jr. of Charlottesville, Virginia; a nephew, Malkam and niece, Mallorie Martin of Charlottesville, Virginia; one aunt, Cora "Dolly" B. Tilman and her husband, Warren, of San Jose, California; two uncles, Arthur T. Jones of Charlottesville, Virginia, and William "Popcorn" A. Jones and his wife, Lynda, of Virginia Beach, Virginia; a stepmother, Julia Jones of Charlottesville, Virginia; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A memorial celebration of life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, March 13, 2010, at Zion Union Baptist Church, 1015 Preston Avenue, Charlottesville, Virginia. The Reverend Lloyd A. Cosby Jr. will be officiating.
