Lacey Nicole Unger, age 28, passed away as a result of a car accident with her fiancé Cole Douglas Cassens on March 31, 2013. Lacey Nicole Unger was born on January 25, 1985, in Georgetown, Texas to Penny Leone and David Unger, her loving parents. She was born at Georgetown Hospital and delivered by Dr. Donovan and Dr. Bohmfalk. She is named after her mother's family surname and nicknamed "Doll Face" by her dad. She grew up surrounded by the congregation of First Presbyterian Church where she was taught, nurtured and loved. In 1991 Lacey welcomed her beloved sister into the world and named her Christina. Lacey and Christina were kindred spirits, and she will continue to serve as her guardian angel. She attended Georgetown High School and graduating in 2003. Lacey graduated with honors from Schreiner University in 2007 with a Bachelor's degree in History. She was a dedicated member of Delta Phi Epsilon and active in many student organizations during college including Inter Greek Council and Vice Chair of the College Republicans. Her true calling in life was educating young children and she excelled in her field touching many young lives. At the time of her death, Lacey was a preschool teacher at her alma mater, Annie Purl Elementary, achieving a lifelong goal of returning to her "utopia" of Georgetown. Lacey was engaged to be married to the love of her life, Cole Cassens and has joined him forever in Heaven. Lacey will forever be remembered as a faithful and loyal daughter, sister and friend. Lacey loved reading, dancing, country music, history and laughing. Lacey's name fit her exactly, she was frilly, feminine, and delicate - a real girly girl who didn't like spiders, snakes or squishy things until she met Cole. Before meeting Cole you would not have found her out of bed before 10AM on a Saturday, even to go shopping. Her family knew her love for Cole was life changing for when she was up at 6AM to go with him to participate in stuffing the casing for the Walburg sausage. Even more amazing was that it was an annual event she looked forward to doing with him. Lacey was against camping at any place except a Hilton Hotel, until she met Cole. She loved to tent camping at the beach or a part, wherever Cole wanted to go fishing. Lacey was said to be a child whisperer because she had a God-given gift to be able to get inside the heads and hearts of her 4 – 5 year old students. She laughed easily and delighted in sharing the stories and fun she experienced each day that she taught at her dream job at Annie Purl. Her dream life was just beginning with Cole and she relished planning her wedding and was thrilled to join the Cassens family. Lacey was preceded in death by her grandparents: Floyd and Roberta Lacey and H. Leo and Fay Unger. Survivors include her father, David Unger of Georgetown; mother and step-father, Penny and Pat Leone; sister Christina Unger of Georgetown; step-sisters: Kellie Vrba and husband Jeff of Georgetown, Mynde Smith and husband John of Lago Vista, Texas, Jenny Hunter and husband Ric of Briarcliff, Texas; six step-nieces and nephews.
