Not sure what to say?

Lacreta--We, your women friends at Cerritos, still miss you terribly! At each rendezvous we have, we invoke your name and your spirit, knowing that you are listening from afar. We keep a place reserved for you at every table where we meet to talk, laugh, and celebrate life. And we feel your beautiful, caring, inimitable presence at all times. Know that we check in with your dear Jack, as well; visiting with him provides us solace, even as we long to be with you. Loving you forever,...

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this sad time.

I became “friends” with Mrs Scott when she was was a columnist for the Daily News. At the time, I was a young mother of three boys, her essays were insightful, funny, and encouraging.
I’ve kept a copy of one that talked about how much she enjoyed her children during their teenage years, all the friends they’d bring home, and the music they introduced her to, how Jack’s socks somehow disappeared from their drawer!
I’m 65 now and the boys are up and out, starting their own...

Although I never met Lacreta, I know of her legacy through her amazing daughter Sharon. I honor her for her education and the difference she made in the world using what she learned. May her memory be a continued blessing.

Everyone loved Lacreta. She was my mother-in-law's best friend, and she became my dear friend too. Lacreta introduced me to my husband, thirty years--and three children--ago. She was also my colleague in the English Department at Cerritos College where she later served as Department Chair and Division Dean. She was an exemplary educator-- wise, witty, and warm. She gave so much to students and the community. After losing her son, Adam, she became an anti-gun activist, bringing a message of...

The world has lost a beautiful person. Lacreta Scott will live in our hearts forever as a spirited, joyful brilliant being who graced the very ground she walked upon..As her teaching colleague and woman friend, I am so honored to have known her for over 35 years--a stunningly unique person who emanated love to everyone she ever encountered. When you experience God's grace in the world, know that she is still helping to disperse it everywhere. Our hearts are breaking with her loss even as we...

Lacreta Scott was among the most revered and respected members of the Cerritos College community. As professor, as dean, as colleague, she expanded an enriched the lives of all of us lucky enough to know her. She also was a dear friend to many of us. She and Jack owned their home in 1989 to us for our wedding even though they hardly knew us—their generosity and spirit were boundless. Lacreta’s legacy grows through the thousands of lives she has made better.
