I became “friends” with Mrs Scott when she was was a columnist for the Daily News. At the time, I was a young mother of three boys, her essays were insightful, funny, and encouraging.
I’ve kept a copy of one that talked about how much she enjoyed her children during their teenage years, all the friends they’d bring home, and the music they introduced her to, how Jack’s socks somehow disappeared from their drawer!

Although I never met Lacreta, I know of her legacy through her amazing daughter Sharon. I honor her for her education and the difference she made in the world using what she learned. May her memory be a continued blessing.

Everyone loved Lacreta. She was my mother-in-law's best friend, and she became my dear friend too. Lacreta introduced me to my husband, thirty years--and three children--ago. Lacreta Scott was among the most revered and respected members of the Cerritos College community. As professor, as dean, as colleague, she expanded an enriched the lives of all of us lucky enough to know her. She also was a dear friend to many of us. She and Jack owned their home in 1989 to us for our wedding even though they hardly knew us—their generosity and spirit were boundless. Lacreta’s legacy grows through the thousands of lives she has made better.
