Lad was the epitome of a gentleman and a scholar. His knowledge of nature was matched only by his kindness. It was a privilege to have known him.

The first Earth Day was celebrated when Janet was in 8th grade. Dr. Hanka was our guest speaker on that day and, of course, was wonderful. Throughout my science teaching career his name would pop up in a supportive stance especially when KAMSC was born.

I knew Lad Hanka through the Kalamazoo Valley Chapter of
Trout Unlimited and got to know him well during the many
First Friday Luncheons that I was privileged to attend at the
Beacon Club. I also remember fishing on the Bighorn River with Lad.mMy sincerest condolences go to the Hanka family. Lad was
a genuine person, warm and compassionate. My life was enriched
through my association with Lad. I know that he will be missed by
family and friend alike; he will not be forgotten.
