Not sure what to say?

Dear Mary,
I am saddened to hear that Laird has passed. Getting to know Laird at NAAC functions was always such a joy. His gentle, caring spirit always shown though, as did the twinkle in his eyes. Please accept our most sincere condolences and a loving hug. I hope you will stay in touch.

I was sorry to read (Oregonian) of Prof. Brodie's death. I was an undergraduate Physics student at PSC/U in 1966-69 and worked in Prof. Brodie's low temperature lab in the basement of Science I. He was very helpful to and forgiving of a student with little hands-on experience. Prof. Brodie (but also generally true for the Physics faculty) provided a great foundation for future work. I was able to gain acceptance to and graduate from a competitive grad school (UCSD). I have spoken with a...

I remember Laird as a very fine musician, accomplished Franch Horn player. He was a loyal member of the Marylhurst College Orchestra. His gentle, warm personality made him a very respected colleague. His "kids" -my students of violin- had a Dad whose soul was filled with music.
My deep sympathy to the Brodie Family.

I WAS SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT LAIRD..AS PART OF THE EXTENDED FAMILY I REMEMBER SO MANY SUMMERS AS A YOUNG BOY ON THE CLACKAMAS RIVER. LAIRD WAS A COUPLE OF YEARS OLDER THEN I AND TAUGHT ME NOT ONLY HOW TO SWIM BUT ALSO SO MUCH ABOUT NATURE. BECAUSE OF LAIRD AND HIS FAMILY I HAVE SO MANY WONDERFUL MEMORIES.

Mary - As you may know Laird was the only person in Portland I had any personal connection to when I arrived almost 46 years ago. A gentle soul, he proved to be admirable as a person, able as a physicist, loyal as a friend. Ann and I will miss him. I hope we will keep contact with you. Arnie Pickar

Mary, we were so saddened to hear of Laird's passing. We always enjoyed seeing you both at the Physics Dept. parties. Laird always had such a warm and gentle manner. We will always remember seeing you both on Valentine's Day. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Mary, It was a pleasure to be in the same PSU department with Laird for the past 43 years. We will miss him.

Michelle and I really enjoyed the time we spent with Laird over the years. We both still remember in particular Laird's enthusiasm and joy as he led our hiking group to the top of the knob that overlooks the Plains of Abraham on the shoulder of Mt. St. Helens. That was a wonderful time. We are happy that we knew him, but sad that he is gone.

Mary,
So very sorry to learn Laird has passed away. I always enjoyed seeing him with you at our NAAC activities. Please know that Jim and I send you warm thoughts and gentle hugs.

Frances and I extend our sympathy to the family. I carpooled with Laird Brodie some 50 years ago when we played in the Portland Civic Opera orchestra (he on French horn, I on viola). I have always remembered his wisdom, his good humor, and his devotion to the cause of good music in Portland.
