Lamar “Shay” Williams

Shay Williams was born on July 29, 1985 in Socorro, NM to John S. (Jay) Williams and Jo Henderson Williams. Shay, as he was called from day 1, has always been a sensitive and caring soul. He was the first to lend a hand to his friends, and one who intensely felt the trials and tribulations of those he interacted with. Shay felt things deeply, and injustices and injuries impacted his heart and his need to assist those who he came in contact with. He had numerous friends and associates who recall him fondly as a caring and committed person, and who was invaluable to their lives.

As a youth, Shay participated in Valley Football, Sundance Swim League and Socorro MS Band. He went on to be a team Captain with the NMMI Fighting Colts football team and was a state swim team participant and record holder in the relay events.

While Shay demonstrated the qualities of love, friendship, empathy, and commitment to others, he rarely acknowledged the need for those same qualities from others; putting their needs before his. This ability to put others first and put himself on hold, resulted in admiration for his selflessness and sorrow that we fell short in meeting his needs.

Shay is survived by his hero, his son Izaak Lee Williams, his mother Jo Henderson Williams, brothers Vagas Mooring, Darnell Williams, Rafael Hall and Jabar Hall; his sister, Bryonne Williams; nephew Vagas Mooring II; niece Aiyana Gutierrez; and numerous cousins, uncles, aunts, and brothers at heart (friends who were more than that in his heart and soul).  He is preceded in death by his son Kamdyn Ari Williams and his father, Jay.

Services are pending at this time. Shay will have two memorials, one here in the Phoenix area for his friends and acquaintances he has become close to in his tenure in Arizona; and another in his home town area of Socorro, NM.

We would like to thank everyone for their support, dedication and love they have showered upon the family. We appreciate you and love you all.

Not sure what to say?

How can someone have such an open heart and yet be so guarded? Shay was always more concerned about how your day was and didn't want to talk about his. He felt he had to be strong for everyone else. If you were sad, he wanted to make you smile. If you were mad, he wanted you to let it go. Yet he didn't want anyone else to feel his grief...or his pain. He had to be strong for everyone he loved. Life is hard and has no easy answers, yet he tried his best to make it as simple and plain as...

Shay has been my closest friend for the last 20 years. He was such a compassionate and selfless person, and had a great sense of humor. He valued time with friends and family above all else, and offered his time and attention generously to those who knew him. I will forever miss his friendship. To all that knew and loved him, my deepest sympathies for your loss.

I love you my brother. I will always miss our conversations on the phone about life. I cherish the times we spent together in high school and in college. I was so lucky that I was blessed to have you as my roommate and best friend thru out our young adult life! I still cannot believe you´re gone and I will never forget you! You meant so much more than a friend to me and I wish I can see your big smiling face again one day! I love you my brother!
