Not sure what to say?

As we look back on our youth and reflect on people who influenced us the most I would have to say for me it was Lance Elwell. I was a shy boy who had recently lost his father and Lance took me under his wing and got me involved in photography and mountaineering at Storm King. He was a mentor and friend and wish I had kept in touch to tell him how much he influenced my life. Farewell my friend.

Sarah, My sincere condolences on Lance´s passing. Please forgive the late response. You and Lance were a treasure in my life. Thanks to you both for your friendship. Godspeed to Lance

Mr. Elwell was a wonderful teacher. I´m glad and grateful to have been his student during my two years at Storm King. I am saddened to learn of his passing.

Lance Elwell was a wonderful mentor to me. He was my art and photography teacher at Storm King School from 1966 to 1969. He helped me discover photography and graphics talents. I have fond memories of him dropping me off at different points along the Hudson to take pictures of broken-up ice formations and of abandoned ferry stations. He encouraged me and pushed me to grow.

I attended `66-`69.... Mr.Elwell was a great teacher of art... I was exposed to artists and artwork I never knew existed... and from that had a lifelong interest and appreciation for art ...

Please accept sincere condolences from The Storm King School where he taught from 1968-1972. One o f his students, Ed Lange '67 wrote about him: Lance Elwell was passionate about art and photography. He carried that passion in his teaching and interaction with students. In my opinion, Mr. Elwell went far beyond his teaching duties to try to impress upon his students the connection between nature and art. I see the world in a richer context because of Mr. Lance Elwell".
