Larry John Blocker died on November 6th, 2023 in Houston, TX, surrounded by his immediate family. He was 82 years old, and still had about 10 years of projects that he wanted to do. We, his family - Mary, his wife of 59 years and 362 days (yup, we're rounding it to 60); his kids: Ann, Jim and...

Not sure what to say?

We are so sorry to hear of Larry´s passing. It was a real pleasure to get to know him over the years. Mary is a cousin of my Dad´s and they were so thoughtful when my Dad passed in 2010. Sorry I wasn´t able to make the service because of COVID but I would have said in person that he enjoyed a life well lived. Love from the Ken Ekelund wing of the family.

Mr. Larry, was an exceptional man who never was too tired to work. He had a goal and a clear vision. He was never ashamed to admit that he depended on our love and commitment to work. He never tired and always had a refreshing and positive attitude. He was always there when someone needed him. He was a wonderful man full of integrity and respectful to everyone he met. He had a great love and respect for his wife Mary, taking care of her with so much love and above all took care of her health....

During our Air Force careers, Larry and I worked together for 3 years at Gunter AFB in Montgomery, AL. Larry was the senior leader of the organization that was responsible for the design, deployment, upkeep, and operation of a new Air Force Supply System world wide. I was his deputy. There are lots of memories of the highlights and trying times of that 3 year period. The one I remembered the most occurred on September 1, 1987. On that day Larry, Mary, me, and my wife (Lee) ended our active...

I´ll always cherish the conversations Larry and I had and the love and dedication he expressed for Mary, his family, and his dedication to Keep US Fed. His passion for service has truly left a lasting impression on me, and I will miss his ability to infuse laughter into any moment. Larry will so deeply be missed, but his legacy of committed service will continue to inspire all us he´s impacted.

Years ago I hosted Larry and a few others on our screened porch in order to navigate the changing relationship between Keep US Fed Montgomery County and Keep Austin Fed. His generous spirit was key in laying the groundwork for the rapid growth and incredible service provided by both organizations. Later I was lucky enough to get to know his daughter Ann through entirely different circles. Clearly this incredible man nurtured not only a valuable community resource but also a loving, kind family.

I am so sorry that I will be out of the country and not able to attend the service for Larry. To me he was bigger than life. I joined KeepUSFed 18 months ago and from the first time he met me he treated me as family. He was my inspiration to always give more and if I couldn´t make my run, there was a good chance Larry would cover so I make sure to add runs as much as I can. Even more in memory of Larry. He will be on every one with me.

Grief can be so hard, but our special memories help us cope. Remembering you and your loved one today and always.
