Not sure what to say?

It was my good fortune to know Larry for 30 years as a friend, running companion, and Dead Jocks teammate. I met Larry when he joined the Dead Jocks, and through the years as the team changed, Larry became the team Captain. That meant, of course, that he managed all the logistics of getting the team registered for the next year´s race. But he was so much more than that to the team. He was an excellent organizer, and an amazing runner. But he was also our chief encourager, coach, and fitness...

My sincerest condolences to Larry's family. It saddens my heart knowing that he left you way too soon. Hood to Coast this year will just not be quite the same. Our teams always seemed to meet out on the course and he was always an encouraging "competitor" with smiles, always. Seeing him during the packet pick up for the relay was fun, also. Yes, our friendship was formed through the running community and the miles I run this year for HTC will be spent missing such a fun person, but being...

Larry was my neighbor for more than 30 years - the perfect neighbor! We usually visited over the backyard fence while each of us was working in the yard. We would discuss the challenges at our jobs, agree on landscaping between our properties and of course excitedly discuss our assigned Hood to Coast legs and after the race share the highs and lows of our teams´ experience. Larry was always ready to help out getting the mail and porch packages when we were gone and lending a hand for yard...

I met Larry in 1981 in the ORRC Race Series. Although we competed against each other we quickly became close friends and would pace each other through races until one of us would pull ahead. Generally Larry would win the shorter races with a burst of speed while I was able to hold on and win the longer ones. There was one notable exception to this. In the Twice Around Hagg Lake Run (roughly 21 miles) Larry pushed the first loop harder than I wanted to go and left me behind the second lap. He...

I met Larry when I was picked up as an alternate runner for the Dead Jocks sometime in the early 90's. I have no idea how many HTC's I ran with the DJ's. Larry could tell you, but he's not here. Wait a minute, I think I hear Larry starting a story! I mean that in the best way! Running HTC was the best and most enjoyable of all my running experiences. Absolutely incredible group of guys. Larry and I really started our deep friendship when I couldn't run anymore and started cycling. ...

I first met Larry at Freightliner, where we both worked in finance. We were also both runners, so we had an immediate connection. Larry knew that I was an avid runner, so 1988 he introduced me to an IBM team who needed a runner for HTC. That led to me forming my own team in 1995 and soon thereafter, Larry suggested that his sister Lynn join us and we have been blessed to run with her many years. We, like many others, were shocked to hear of Larry's passing and we pray that the Lord will...

Group of 10 Memorial Trees

I’ve known Larry for 50 years. Larry picked up a group of Quebec hitchhikers in Florida in January 1973. His own group of 4 grew to 8 and we travelled a week together around Florida in his van. Those were the days
We stayed in touch all these years. I’d visit Larry and Sandy and the girls in Portland when I went to Vancouver for work. We’d go to Cannon Beach and hike in the mountains. Such great memories.
My condolences to the family, to Jean and Tim and Bob in New Jersey. Our...

Larry was a mentor and good friend. We shared a love of hard work, running and math. He mentored me through challenging situations at work. We ran many track workouts and hill repeats together and he always kept the time and did the math on our splits. He paced me during several marathons and was a great inspiration. I know him as someone who had a fierce love for his family and would do anything for his daughters. I can´t believe he has left us. He touched many lives and I am fortunate to...
