Fairchild, Larry K. passed away on Friday, August 17, 2018. He was the loving husband of Terry C. (Schulte) Fairchild; father of Larry A. Fairchild, Derek K. Fairchild (Jackie), and stepfather of Brian S. Van Pelt (Beth). While his ending was quiet and peaceful, his life brimmed with the ingredients of life. Protective of his family, devoted to his tribe at Procter and Gamble, connected to his friends with truth and devotion, he was a man with presence. If you met him, you didn't forget him! He worked out at the gym every day of his adult life, and that personal discipline and his keen intellect provided a model for his managing young professionals at Procter and Gamble where he led the St. Louis District for many years. After retiring from P&G, he gave his next five years to serving on projects at Manchester United Methodist Church, and followed that with coaching and mentoring young men in the Parkway West Football Program (2007-2009). He never stopped being an avid University of Kansas Jayhawk fan even after graduating and playing Division I football there. Graduation from KU was the end of his college days, but not his football days. Following KU, he signed a contract with The Dallas Rockets who sent him up to play with the Dallas Cowboys where he played with intensity, discovered the power of strategized teamwork, and never, never quit until the fat lady sang. Larry was a man of character who stood up for what was right; he was a man who worked through the pain; he was a man who loved intensely, played hard, and played to win. He was a man's man, but also showed the gentleness of a lamb to his beloved grandchildren Kelsey, Claire, Carson, Nate, and Reese. Larry is no longer with us, but his formidable spirit, his funny Larryisms, and his zest for life will long be remembered. Services: Funeral service at Manchester United Methodist Church, 129 Woods Mill Road, Friday, August 24, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. Interment Manchester Methodist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Williams Education Fund, University of Kansas or National Stroke Assn. Visitation at the SCHRADER Funeral Home and Crematory, 14960 Manchester Road at Holloway, Ballwin, Thursday, August 23, 2018 from 5-8 p.m. Friends may sign the family's online guestbook at Schrader.com.

Not sure what to say?

Larry was one of my coaches in the Westco Junior Football League when I was 13, under the legendary head coach Clarence Wolff. Coach Fairchild taught us 13-year-olds complex football defense formations, strategies and plays, as well as pro-style aggressive play and commitment to strength and fitness. He was intimidating and tough and funny and kind. His passion for football was great. But even more notable was his deep and innovative knowledge of the game. His football knowledge and...

Thinking of Derek and Terry and family during this sad time. Larry truly made an impact on my life as he faced adversity with such a positive attitude. I felt I knew him simply in the past year just by his perseverance and dedication to working out. I pray you find peace in all your wonderful memories of Larry.

Larry was a true gentleman and will be remembered by all of the Roth family! Wishing you many happy memories in the challenging days ahead!

My condolences to Terry, Larry, Derek, Brian and family. I remember the warmth and genuine care Larry had for other people. He always had a keen interest in knowing how you and your family were doing. I will always remember the countless talks in car rides about life, growing up and everything KU. I am a better person today for having known Larry. My thoughts, prayers and fond memories are with you as he will be missed.

When I think of Larry, I think of all his "Larryisms". He always had a smile, and a laugh. He gave 100% to whatever he was doing at the time, and he expected the best from others, whether it was learning, being a parent, or selling a new item to a customer. In my experience with Larry at P&G, he made me want to do a good job because he role modeled commitment and dedication to the business. But above all, Larry put his family first. He loved his family. He will be missed. My thoughts...

REST IN PEACE YOU WILL BE MISSED

I came to St. Louis in 1986 as a new manager for Procter & Gamble; reporting to Larry. He was tough and he taught me a lot; but he also had a listening ear and soft heart when it came to family. He was very proud of his family and I know he will be missed. My condolences....

After working at P&G with Larry for 28 years, I found him to be a good leader and friend. We had many good laughs. Condolences to Terry and family.
