Not sure what to say?

As a 10th grade student at John Marshall high scool back in 1986, i can remeber Larry standing at my desk explaining to class, with deep thought, the true meaning and importance of literacy and creative writing.

I was a bank teller at Old National. Larry was one of my favorite customers. I always enjoyed conversing with him about anything and everything. Larry was never without a smile. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. We have truly lost a good man.

Mr. Gries was my English 101 teacher last semester.. He was such a great teacher, and I always looked forward to his class. He always made us laugh, and made our class fun. He will be missed. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Larry was a good friend and colleague, and fun to run into and chat with at the Donut Bank and Barnes and Nobles. He was always upbeat, and cared deeply about his students. He was an inspiration to my daughter when she was in his comp class. He will be missed. (Nancy Thomas, formerly at USI--now at Tusculum College)

This is such a huge loss. He was my English professor my first semester at USI and challenged me. He was a great supporter of myself and the USI Theater Program. He was a wonderful man. My thoughts are with his family and friends.

Larry was correctly named the "nicest guy in Liberal Arts.". He always said hello to everyone, with a smile.

I had lunch with him nearly every day for many years. Our conversations were about everything one can imagine, but most often about our students and work at USI. I valued his insight and advice.

I miss you every day. You were are a part of so many lives. Your positive impact on this world will remain.

Larry was an amazing teacher, friend, and human being. I will miss our conversations, but keep all you shared close to my heart. His family has my deepest sympathy. He will be missed.

I always enjoyed lunches in The Loft with Larry. He was a caring person and a lot of fun to be around. He will be missed at USI.

Larry Gries was many things to many people. To me he was an exceptional and patient teacher.... AND LOYAL FRIEND More than anything else Larry was an inspiration to the Christian life during my four years at Bishop Hendricken and for 45 years a loyal friend. He taught everyone who had the priviledge to call Larry "teacher" the importance of living life to the fullest and being the best you can. He always took the time to reach out to others and we all should applaud his standing up for right...
