If this is the Larry Payne I'm thinking of, he was a brilliant computer programmer who authored the Graphics-90 system for the TRS-80 Model 3 computer. Most people have never heard of it, since it was never marketed commercially. The Model 3 was discontinued about the time he completed the program.
