Larry L. Sanderson, Sr. 1950 - 2018
Springfield, IL—Larry L. Sanderson, Sr., 68, of Springfield, passed away at 9:39 p.m. on Thursday, August 2, 2018, at his home.
Larry was born on April 27, 1950 in Springfield, the son of James and Helen Lawley Sanderson. He married Catherine Loyd on August 9, 1969 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Springfield.
Larry graduated from Southeast High School, class of 1969. He worked as a bricklayer for 50 years. Larry was a member of the Eagles Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing horseshoes, making knives, racing and spending time with his lifelong friends, Connie and Norman Clark. Larry also loved spending time with extended family and friends at local taverns.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Charles L. Loyd; sister-in-law, Linda Loyd; and niece, Denise Loyd.
He is survived by his wife, Cathy of Springfield; son, Larry (companion, Megan) Sanderson, Jr. of Greenview; daughters, Jennifer (companion, Venson) Sanderson of Springfield and Nancy Sanderson of North Las Vegas, NV; adopted children, Paula Jones, Suzie Gutierrez, and Dianne Gutierrez; grandchildren, Akeem Sanderson Johnson, Isaiah Sanderson Johnson, Chere Witherspoon, Vontavius Williams, Shelby Sanderson, and Autumn Sanderson; brother-in-law, Hal "Butch" Loyd of Melbourne Beach, FL; and nieces, Kelly Bunce and Rita Loyd.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield.
Funeral Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating. Burial will follow at Joe Brunk Cemetery.
