Not sure what to say?

Larry was my PE teacher at Lehi High School. I typed his name on my iPhone and was saddened to see he had passed away 4 years ago.
He was a very fair man and I owe him a lot. He took me under his arm once when he could of just as easily make pay some consequence. It was an act of kindness I will never forget.
He is a good man.

Everyone will miss Coach Shurtliff. What a great example he was to everyone, not only the students and players he coached but to fellow coaches, like me, and others who worked with him. He did it HIS way, but I can assure everyone it was the right way. No need to worry about anything illegal or immoral in his coaching and teaching, nor in his everyday demeanor. Wish we had more Coach Larry R Shurtliffs! Goodbye our friend and our most sincere condolences to Leona and the Shurtliff...

Godspeed Coach Shurtliff. I still can't call you Larry. It has been fourty or so years since we spoke face to-face. I can close my eyes and feel it as if it were yesterday...that you looked me in the eyes and passionately gave me grid-iron marching orders and conveyed your belief in me, a belief, that I could successfully execute your next plan.

The echos of your voice in my heart still ring out . "You can do it" "Go get 'em" A gift I cannot repay. I am deeply grateful, Coach. ...

All our love , condolence and prayers to you and your family. Larry (coach) Shurtliff was a great friend, colleague and example. We will always carry the loving memories of our relationships and interactions with this stalwart individual and very special friend. Neldon and Carol Mathews

Dear Larry,

When God saw you getting tired
And a cure was not to be
He put his arms around you
And whispered, "Come to me."
He didn't like what you went through
And he gave you rest
His garden must be beautiful
He only takes the best
And when we saw you sleeping
So peaceful and free from pain
We wouldn't wish you back
To suffer that again
Today we say goodbye
And as you take your final rest
That garden must be beautiful
Because you are one...

Thank you for your example and willingness to share your coaching expertise with a young coach like me. We take this moment to give all your ohana our love and aloha. Tana, may the love of all your friends and family somehow bring you comfort and may the love of God bring you peace.

"A hui hou" (bye for now), Coach Shurtliff.

Dear Leona, sorry about the loss of Larry, even though it's been 20 plus yrs since I saw the two of you at what was then a Dixie College basketball game. I really enjoyed Larry when I got to know him well at BYU graduate school together. With my deepest sympathy,
-Gale Anderson

Dear Shurtliff family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. I greatly enjoyed my association with your father. My favorite college course was his fundamentals of coaching class. What a great man and what a great family he has to be so proud of.
