Not sure what to say?

Dear family of Larry VandeCreek, I came in contact with Larry when he was working in the HealthCare Chaplaincy Network in the Upper East in NY. At that time I was working in Belgium as a chaplain in a university hospital. I contacted him through email to ask advice regarding research and he sent me articles. Later I went to visit him in his Upper East office in NY twice and joined a CPE group he was having in Sloan Kettering as a guest speaker. He referred me to Art Lucas in St Louis where...

I knew and worked with Larry as a local colleague for several years while he was at Ohio State in Columbus, OH. He was a solid professional and friend. I have a profound respect for his contribution to pastoral care -- especially through the research he conducted. In many ways he was a pioneer in pastoral care research. Larry and his whole family are in my prayers.

I knew Larry mostly through AAPC. He was in Columbus and I in several Samaritan Centers in Michigan. He was our pastoral care/ counseling research expert. I remember his grief when his son died in a bicycle accident. Larry was a good pastor and friend.

With much gratitude for Larry's leadership in the field of research in pastoral education and chaplaincy. He was truly an innovator in the field.

Though Larry was intellectually brilliant, he was always friendly, affirming and approachable. He was a true trailblazer in professional chaplaincy research. Many times, he was a "voice in the wilderness" but he took this in stride and encouraged us all to persevere in learning. What a great man.

Warmest Sympathy and Care for you and your family, Celia.
