Larry Walker Obituary

Walker, Larry James
of Chandler, 74, passed away into the arms of his savior on November 5, 2014. Larry was born February 27, 1940, in Phoenix to Lawrence and Flora Belle Walker Davies. He spent his youth in what was then west Phoenix, graduating from West Phoenix High School in 1958. He made countless lifelong friends through his high school years that remained an important part of his life to the end. At West he excelled in many different activities including multiple sports that led to lasting friendships with his peers from the other local schools. After high school he attended Phoenix College where he was an all-American on Coach Steve Carson's 1960 national championship baseball team and a member of Coach Shanty Hogan's 1959 football team, which won the Shrine Potato Bowl that year. After Phoenix College he attended Arizona State University where he played baseball for Coach Bobby Winkles and met the love of his life, Rosalyn Whitney. Larry and Rosalyn celebrated a loving marriage of 52 years. Larry had a long and successful career in the semiconductor industry, building and managing operations in many parts of the world, but with the Phoenix area always being his home. Larry is survived by his wife Rosalyn of Chandler, daughter Dana Johnston (Robert) of Top of the World, AZ, sons Joe (Maggie) of Abilene, TX, Eddie (Dianna) of Gilbert, and Tommy of Tempe, brother Jim (Claudia) of Payson, and sister Linda (Mark) Green of Mesa. He was also extremely proud of his 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. The memorial service will be held at the Hayden Chapel of Scottsdale Bible Church, 7901 E. Shea, at 2:00 PM on Monday, November 10, with a time of fellowship for family and friends to follow. Memorial Donations can be made to: Discipling Partners at New Horizons Foundation, 4570 Hilton Parkway, Suite 203 Colorado Springs, CO 80907 (newhorizonsfoundation.com) or Teen Challenge, PO Box 5966, Tucson, AZ 85703-0966. Our warmest gratitude to the staff and volunteers at Lund Hospice Home, Gilbert.

It was always exciting to watch Larry playing quarterback for the Thunderbirds, darting in and out of the opposition and scoring a touchdown. It was a real pleasure to talk with Larry after so many years at the reunions and to meet Rosalyn. My deepest sympathy for your great loss.

We were so sorry to hear of Larry's death. We have so many fond memories of Larry and his family. We were friends here and when we all lived in Singapore. In fact Larry was the one responsible for us moving overseas....where we stayed for 25 yrs. He was a great mentor and friend! Rosalyn, so sorry we are out of state and can't be there for the service. Would love to talk to you when we get back. We are so sorry for your loss. He was very special!!

Many caring thoughts for the Walker family. Larry was so special to so many and will be sorely missed. He was a kind and considerate gentleman always willing to help others. Throughout the years he remained especially supportive of Phoenix College and its sports programs, including the Shanty Hogan Legacy Fund which funded scholarships for football athletes.
