My deepest condolences to the Eilers Family for the loss of Laura. I met her in a Yahoo! Group just after the turn of the millenium. She was inspirational, and provided sage advice to me and others at the time when were all just mucking about writing creatively. I have not talked to her in quite a while and I wish I had talked to her more over the years, now that I won't have the chance to talk to her again. I hope I can better honor her memory and our friendship in the future.

A long time ago and during a very strange time in my life , Laura was a source of kindness and compassion for me in online chats that was much needed. We lost touch, but I never forgot that warmth. Godspeed.

Back in late 1999 to early 2000's, I joined a group on what was known as Yahoo Groups at the time. It was there I first met Laura. She was like the linchpin of the group - you could talk to her about anything and despite having her own troubles to deal with she would always try and make you smile with her off-brand sense of humour. The world has lost another light. I knew Laura from taking my masters with her she was a great person and a font of knowledge I will miss her.

I am profoundly saddened to hear of Laura's passing. Laura was whip-smart, irreverently funny, and savvy. She loved, and was fiercely loyal, to her family, her friends, her cats, and to causes she supported and believed in. I a co-worker, sat across from her, for five years at Verizon and heard it all.
