Not sure what to say?

Laura was tough, smart, honest, and very funny. She had no problem letting people know where she stood or where they stood with her. We mostly spoke in passing at campus venues and I regret not taking more time to enjoy her honesty and humor. I have missed those times with her and am saddened that they are gone forever. For Marvin who was able to re-establish a connection with Laura, I extend my deepest sympathies and fondest admiration. I cannot count the times when you and I were the...

Laura and I commuted together from Huntington over a two year period and that time was truly a joy and an education in racial studies. I will miss her.

Aryeh and Damian,
You have been much in my thoughts since I read of your mom's passing. Your family was a big part of my Quarry Hill years, and I always enjoyed my lively conversations with your mom. I can picture her being so delighted as she watched the two of you competing and having fun. I will carry fond memories of her.

Laura was a true scholar, inspiring professor and a grand lady. I met her while I was a graduate student over 20 years ago. Laura epitomized the type of scholar and teacher that I wanted to become. She was a role model in as Laura would say, "a sea or Whiteness." She inspired me and generations of African American women. She was a mentor to women of all races and I got to experience her support while we both participated in a Nation Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA) post doctoral program in...

Laura's insights and activism had a profound effect on how I conducted myself in my 25 year career in corrections. She is one of the most influential women in my life and I'm sad to hear that she's gone. She was a formidable woman. My condolences to her family.

Aryeh and Damian, please accept my sincere condolences for the loss of your mom. Laura will always hold a special place in my heart. Beneath that wonderfully irascible outer persona was a keen intelligence and kind heart that will be sorely missed.

I always loved my discussions with Laura - lively, passionate and important.

It was great working for Dr. Laura Fishman in the Sociology Department. She taught me many things and made me aware of how important a woman I was. We shared many stories and it was fascinating working with her. Love you, Rest in Peace, Patricia St. Amour

Laura and I were friends for many years. We felt like sisters. She fought the good fight and I will always cherish her memory.
