Not sure what to say?

We were neighbors to Joe and Laura in Pittsboro. We're saddened we are only now learning of her passing in 2024. Our hearts go out to Joe and Laura's family for their loss.

We spent time with Laura and Joe in and around Chapel Hill, NC, some years back. We greatly enjoyed their company. We remember Laura reading powerful passages from her writing at the Winter Solstice of the Jung Society at the New Hope Camp and Conference Center. We remember special Thanksgivings with them, including one at an Indian restaurant in town and, especially, others at their home in the country, where we enjoyed wonderful food and conversation. We were grateful for their friendship...

For a good time Laura participated with me in a writers group. I enjoyed her greatly as a fellow writer and as a friend. She will be much missed. Joyce Allen

I knew Laura as a writer. She could transport us from our writers group in Carrboro NC to Africa with her vivid descriptions and obvious love of the people and place. So sorry to learn of her passing, much too soon.

Laura was in my writing workshop when we met at Joyce Allen's house in Carrboro. She was such a GOOD writer and wonderful member of the group. I thought I read online that she got her novel published. I remember hearing parts of it and would love to read it.

Laura was a lovely writer, a lovely friend, a lovely spirit. My heart goes out to her family.

Sending condolences to Laura's family. Laura attended the church I attend, Community Church of Chapel Hill Unitarian Universalist, and we became fast friends. Laura later joined my dream group. I was very sad when she moved away to Portland, and missed her insight and humor. She was a gifted woman with words and animals. May she find peace across the veil.

I was so sorry to read of your loss in this morning's News & Observer. Once a North Carolina writer, always a NC writer in "the writingest state." I enjoyed working with Laura as we prepared her 2014 Doris Betts Fiction Prize short story for publication in the 2015 issue of the NC Literary Review--one of her many award-winning stories.
