Laura B. (Cataldo) Smith, 75, of Jeannette, passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2023, in the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh.  She was born August 7, 1947, in Greensburg, a daughter of Phyllis Cataldo of Jeannette, and the late Tito Cataldo.

Laura was a graduate of Jeannette High School, and received her Masters Degree in education from Salem College in West Virginia. Prior to her retirement Laura was a teacher for the Hempfield Area School District.  She was a member of the Ascension Church in Jeannette, the Jeannette Business Association, the Jeannette Planning Commission, and the Jeannette Recreation Board.  Laura was also a member of the Dante Aligheri Italian Sons and Daughters of America Lodge #244, and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

Laura had such a love for the city of Jeannette and was instrumental in organizing Jeannette’s Food Truck Thursday, and the city's Sparkle of Christmas Parade.

Laura's greatest love was her family and she could not have been more proud. She was the heart of the family; hosting holidays, attending her grandchildren's events, and always being there for everyone. She will be greatly missed by all, but especially by her two daughters.

In addition to her father, Laura was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Ronald Renner Smith on May 13, 2022.

In addition to her mother, Laura is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Lubecki and husband Jim of East Huntingdon Twp., and Amanda Stanislaw and husband David of Hempfield Twp.; grandchildren, Lauryn and Nicholas Lubecki, and Brandon Stanislaw.

Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm Sunday in the John V. Graziano Funeral Home Inc., 228 North 2nd St. Jeannette.  A funeral mass will be celebrated 11am Monday in the Ascension Church with Fr. John Foriska as celebrant. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church.  Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Hempfield Twp.  In lieu of flowers, lanterns, and wind chimes, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 Saint Jude Place Memphis TN 38105-9959.

Such nice people. I had Mrs. Smith as a teacher at West Hempfield when she was pregnant with one of her children, then Mr. Smith at GCC. They were both just kind and special people.

Amanda and Jennifer,
I’m so sorry, I am truly heartbroken Your Mom was such an amazing caring and beautiful woman. Her love for her family, the city of Jeannette and her generosity will never be matched. I will never forget all the times at your parents house and how they both made me feel so welcome at times when I needed it more than anything. She is with your Dad again and they will be watching down on you all with so much pride and joy❤

Sending Love & prayers to Laura's Family, she was such a sweetheart! Knowing she is with our Lord & in the arms of her loving husband Ron hopefully can give you some peace God Bless Your Family

Since I didn´t live in the Jeannette area for a very long time, I haven´t had much contact with classmates. But I have always thought of Laura over the years. She was the sweetest person in our class. I enjoyed the shott friendship that we had when we were younger. I truly believe that the world has lost a special person. Rest in peace, Laura. Ms Smith was my favorite gym and health teacher in the 70s at WEST Hempfield. Lately I would see her where I worked at Bath And Body in the mall and we would always talk as recently as Easter. I’m so sorry to hear this news but she talked of how she missed her husband, I’m sure she is at peace with him now. God bless the family and her two daughters she spoke with you often.

Our deepest condolences to your family.

We pray our Lord welcomes our cousin La La and provides peace to her family and friends. Jimmy an Liz O´Dell

May God bless you and your family during this time and always. You are in our prayers.
