Lauren Lavelle Conrad, 89, passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2018, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
Born on Aug. 8, 1928, in Punxsutawney, he was the son of the late Carl and Florence (Heitzenrater) Conrad.
On Sept. 16, 1949, he married the love of his life, Margaret Jane Vite. to whom he was happily married for 65 years.
He was an amazing father to five children, Mrs. Donna (George) Grabany of Punxsutawney, Dr. Vincent (Tammy) Conrad of McMurray, Mrs. Debra (Kevin) Shannon of DuBois, and Mr. Doug Conrad of Rochester Mills.
Lavelle was preceded in death by his wife, Jane; his parents; a brother, William Conrad; and a son, Gary Conrad.
He was known as "Puppa" to 12 grandchildren, Christopher Grabany, Lauren Conrad, Derek and Troy Conrad, and Matt (Tonya) Conrad of Punxsutawney, Lance Conrad of Medina, Ohio, Kelly (Scot) Helton of Columbus, Ohio, Tyler Conrad of Pittsburgh, Patrick (Michelle) Grabany of Harrisburg, David "DJ" (Amy) Rhed of Brockport, Brock Rhed of Falls Creek, and Zayne Rhed of DuBois. In addition, he had six great-grandchildren, Brayden Grabany, Emalyn and Maelee Conrad of Punxsutawney, and Alyson, Abby and RJ Rhed of Brockport.
Lavelle was a successful business owner, establishing Conrad Logging, which he operated for over 25 years, and Conrad's Saw Shop, a Stihl Franchise, located in Rochester Mills. At the age of 89, he still enjoyed spending each day working in his saw shop and interacting with his customers. Lavelle also served as superintendent of Cloe Mining, where he retired after more than 15 years of service.
Lavelle loved home-baked pies. He enjoyed playing cards with his family, attending church and working outdoors at his home. As an avid Steelers, Pirates and Pens fan, he rarely missed watching a game.
Family and friends will be received at the Deeley Funeral Home in Punxsutawney on Monday, May 14, 2018 from 2 to 8 p.m.
A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at Steffey United Methodist Church in Rossiter. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., and the funeral service, officiated by Rev. Gary Donaldson, will be held at 11 a.m.
Burial will be held at Union Hill Cemetery in Rossiter.
