Not sure what to say?

Larry Lieberman shared his love and respect for poetry and poets with his classes and communicated that love to his students with careful attentiveness and perspicacity. He was one of the best educators I ever met, and I'll be mourning his absence and celebrating his life for some time to come. He will always be in my heart and a cherished part of my life.

Larry was my colleague and friend for many years at the University of Illinois, from 1970 until I left in 2004. I remember not only our good conversations, the poetry readings, but also the fact that he was able to rise above political rifts in our department, particularly at a time it was difficult, when theory was more loved than poetry. But Larry kept the faith, the passion for literature and poetry. Many condolences to Bernice and the family. May his memory be for a blessing. Achsah...

I considered Larry a friend for over 20 years. We talked poetry, literature, music and films. He was a wonderful conversationalist and a wonderful friend. I will miss him.

I knew Larry as a colleague in the English Dept, years ago, we'd talk about films. After he retired we'd talk like there was no gap in time. I'll miss Larry. My condolences to his family.

My favorite memory of Larry is dancing with him at Rob's and my bnei mitzvah, in 2009. Rob cherishes the poem that Larry wrote for him for this occasion. It still hangs on Rob's wall next to his desk. Rob and I will always remember what a generous and caring friend he was. May his memory be for a blessing.

I am so sorry to learn of Larry´s passing. I knew him when he lived in Champaign-Urbana. May his memory be a blessing. Wishing you my deepest sympathy, Bernice.

Larry was a great guest for our Memory Cafe a few years ago. The theme was "Poetry" and Larry was in his element. He read a few of his poems to the crowd and was an extremely intelligent and gifted man. We were honored to know him. Andrea Scandrett Dementia Together
