My sincere condolences to the family of Ms. Teannie. She was my first piano teacher and a friend of my great aunt, Anna Alonzo. I remember when she played the Edlewise Waltz for me with such grace and ease, back in 1965. She was my teacher for 8 years and because of her I still play today. I loved her house, her upright piano and Mr. Chester. I'm 57 now, live in Abita Springs and will always remember Ms. Teannie, especially when I play the Edlewise Waltz. She was quite a lady and...

I loved "Aunt" Teanie because she was so New Orleans. Such a part of the character and flavor of the New Orleans I fell in love with and will love for the rest of my life, no matter where I have to live since Katrina. I had no idea of all her accomplishments, altho her neighborhood activism was legendary. She is an inspiration for future generations of all that can be achieved no matter what your age. Laurentine will be missed by the Holy Cross Neighborhood but we do see her name every day above the community garden on one of our most travelled corners. It was named for her years ago to celebrate her public involvement and contribution to Holy Cross as a nurtured green place.
Ms Ernst constantly reminded residents of our links with the past through her articles in the Holy Cross Neighborhood Association's monthly newsletter, and made herself available for people wanting to know more....
