Mezz as her college friends know her, is one of my favorite people in the world. Exceptional people typically don't think they are all that special; they simply enrich the lives of the people that are lucky enough to know them. Laurie is a spiritually blessed, powerful woman. If there is something that I'm happy about in losing (at least for a while) one of my very best friends, it is that she is finally without the burdens and pains associated with her gallant fight against cancer.
