Lavona was born in the front room of her grandparents' rural home in Moselle, Mississippi on July 31, 1931. As a little girl she read the works of Charles Dickens, and as an only child she played with her devoted dog, Tootsie, and the uncooperative chickens who just wouldn't sit still. She took...

Not sure what to say?

I was one of those children visiting the Curry house wishing I could be one of Lavona´s children! What a wonderful person!

Dear Currie family, Oh, so many fond memories of Lavona! Was listening today to holiday music of Sarah Brightman and recalling how a group including Lavona and I attended her concert not too too many years ago at The Fox Theater. She was so fun, conversationally and so into the arts, dance and everything! I miss her, and will do so when in Atlanta. Wishing all of you a good holiday; know that it will be bittersweet though hopefully full of great reminiscences of your mother. Kind...

Sending Love and Healing Prayers to all of Lavona's Family. Although I never did have the pleasure of meeting Lavona, I learned all about her from my longtime, close friend, Millibeth Currie.

From Dr. Julianne Daffin I shall always treasure our fond memories of and Love for Camp Sequoya in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Lavona was a great "Camp Mom," and a good friend to me.

Thoughts of Tranquility Floor Basket

My romance with the Currie family began in Atlanta over 50 years ago. In 1995, I moved to New York City. When Overton and Lavona came to NYC, they stayed at the University Club on 5th Avenue. After Overton passed away, Lavona and I fantasized about her visiting me in to experience my New York, the city that people live in, work in and love. Five years ago, that dream became a reality. I developed a challenging itinerary - 4 days in the city and then a train by the Hudson River to my home...

I am truly sorry to hear of Lavona's passing. The few times that I was in her company, usually at an art event, she was always very kind and treated me like an old friend. My sincere sympathy to the entire Currie family.

Lavona embodied a readiness we should all aspire to know firsthand. Working with her was a tremendous inspiration. She quickly became my favorite student of all time. I learned so much from teaching her, and enjoyed bragging about Lavona to my friends, family and other clients, thus inspiring them. She was such a bright light in my life during a dark time, I will forever be grateful. I am a better person for having known Lavona and her passion for life.

I want the entire Currie family to know that you are in my thoughts and prayers during this most difficult time. May God continue to give you strength and comfort.
