Not sure what to say?

I just learned of Larry's passing. He was one of my graduate school advisor at UoA. I remember his kindness, genuine interest in others and love of life. He was instrumental in supporting my career in science and I am greatly saddened to hear of his and Gwen's passing. The world has lost 2 wonderful people.

I am so sorry that I missed this news last year, and I was surprised that I did not get a reply from my Christmas letter to Larry. I came to the University of Alberta in 1969 to enjoy a Post-doctoral program under his direction. We conducted much research and co-published many research papers on the impact of industrial development on permafrost soils of northern Canada and Alaska. He was a great mentor. This research supported my continuous northern and other international environmental...

Larry was a great guy!

I met him thru his volunteer work as the Innis Arden communities' reserves chairman. Larry was my liaison with the Innis Arden board and it was such a treat, and pleasure, to deal with him.

I am sorry for your loss as Larry was a real joy to be around. He will be missed.

What a beautiful obituary you folks wrote!

I met Gweneth Jones and Larry Bliss during my first month at Kent State University in September, 1949. Gwen was a Consoler in our freshmen dorm, and she was already dating Larry.

We became very good friends during the next three years, and I was honored when Gwen asked me to be a bridesmaid in their wedding in March 1952.

Over the next many years we all lived in various corners of North America, but kept in touch frequently. I managed to visit them in each place they lived .......

Born in 1929, Dr.Larry Bliss and I were of the same age. However, while I arrived in Canada from the former communist Czechoslovakia with mere an undergraduate degree, Larry was already an established professor and authority in alpine and arctic ecology.
I am indebted to Larry for his generosity for accepting me as his postgraduate student at the University of Alberta in 1969, and giving me the opportunity to become his follower as arctic plant ecologist. Our cooperation and close...

Beth Sohlberg, Graduate student of Dr Lawrence Bliss, 1982-1984. At work, King Christian Island, Nunavut, Canada.

King Christian Island, Nunavut area, Canada. Dr Bliss gave me the opportunity of a lifetime of conducting my graduate research here. It may not look like the most scenic place, but it was an adventure I will never forget. For that I am very grateful to

Although we gave Dr Bliss a bit of a hard time back in graduate school in the early 1980s, I have come to realize that he gave me an amazing opportunity, to study botany in the Canadian Arctic, in a place so remote, few people have ever been there. Not only that, but he was very egalitarian in hiring young women to conduct research in such a remote and dangerous location. I did not truly appreciate his leadership in this area at the time, but I do now. I also appreciate the pressure he put...

My deepest condolences
