Broomhead Funeral Home - Riverton Obituary

Larry Blunk was born in Rawson, Ohio on January 28, 1923 to Helen Castor and Silas Clinton Blunk. Larry passed away August 11, 2017 in Riverton, Utah. He was the third child of five, and the last surviving sibling. Larry was born in, what was then, rural Ohio during a major snow storm. The doctor was summoned, but was unable to make it until the following morning. His mother Helen had written his date of birth in the family Bible, but the doctor wrote a different date causing a lifelong controversy on his actual date of birth. So, in his typical fashion, he took the opportunity to always celebrate both days.
Larry met the love of his life, Betty Strom during WWII while stationed in a Salt Lake City airbase. They were married in Lincoln, Nebraska on July 1, 1944 and settled in Salt Lake City. Larry joined the LDS church in 1946 and he and Betty were sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple on October 9, 1947. Larry and Betty were blessed with three children, Sharon, Susan and son, Larry. Larry spent part of his career in With Standard Oil in the Accounting Department. Standard Oil took he and his family from Salt Lake City, to El Paso, Texas, and Denver, Colorado, where he then had the opportunity and desire to return to Salt Lake, where he furthered his career as the CEO of Trans West Credit Union. Larry spent his career highly regarded by his peers.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Richard, Raymond, Marguerite, and Donald, His loving wife Betty and cherished son, Larry. Larry is survived by his Daughters, Sharon (Robert Mechling), Susan (Bruce Dame), Ten Grandchildren, and 22 Great Grandchildren.
Larry was a devoted Son, Husband, Father, Grandfather and friend. He lived a long and fulfilling life and will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A viewing will be held, August 17 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Broomhead Funeral Home, 12600 S 2200 W Riverton, UT. Graveside services will be held Friday August 18 10:00am at the Salt Lake City Cemetery, 200 "N" Street, Salt Lake City. Enter the Cemetery from "N" Street at 7th Avenue (350 North).
