Rossi Funeral Home - Scotch Plains Obituary

Lawrence W. Clavin, 92, of Scotch Plains, died on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.  The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, February 24, 2025 at All Saints Episcopal Church, Scotch Plains, at 11am.  The interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains. Donations and contributions can be made in Lawrence’s memory to, Breakthrough T1D.  


Lawrence was born in Elizabeth, NJ and was raised in Cranford, NJ.  He married Deborah Rorer in 1965, and they soon settled to Scotch Plains to start their family.  Lawrence received his B.A. in English from Randolph Macon University in 1954.  Upon graduation, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and proudly served his Nation during the Korean War.  After being Honorably Discharged, he went on to receive his Master’s Degree from Kean University.  


Lawrence was an English Teacher for 34yrs., at Hillside Junior High School in Cranford, NJ.  He enjoyed doing puzzles and reading. Through out high school, Lawrence was a Sprinter for 4yrs., and had a love for following and watching Track & Field events.  The Jersey Shore will always be an important part of Lawrence’s life; from meeting his wife in L.B.I. and to Ocean City where they had the family shore house.  


Lawrence is survived by his wife of 60yrs., Deborah; his three sons Thomas, Michael, and Peter (Lorri Ann); and his granddaughter Kelly Clavin-Newins (Kyle).
