Dr. Lawrence Joseph Derbes

Dr. Lawrence Joseph Derbes passed away on October 29, 2013 at the age of 84. Husband of the late Barbara Sanchez Derbes. Father of Deborah Haindel (Joe), Kathryn Derbes, Dr. Lawrence J. Derbes, Jr. (Robin), William C. Derbes (Cecile), Michael P. Derbes, Mignon Shackelford (Scott), and the late Thomas J. Derbes. Grandfather of Hailey and Joey Haindel, Danielle, Monica, Larry III, Charles, Jean-Pierre, and Marie-Cecile Derbes, Charlotte and Robert Shackelford. Son of the late Charles J. Derbes and Carmen Antonini Derbes. Brother of Beverly Landrieu, Virginia Thorpe and the late Myrtle Walsh, Elisemary Walsh, Eleanore Bennison, Charles Joseph Jr., Carmen, Rev. Louis Joseph, J. Roy, John Derbes, and Rosemary Withers. Dr. Derbes attended the St. Vincent Seminary in Cape Girardeau, MO and was a graduate of Loyola University Dental School. He was a member of the Blue Key Honor Society and the Loyola Track and Field Team, and was a member of the Gulf State Regional Championship Track Team. In 1999 he was inducted into the Loyola Athletic Hall of Fame for the 1951 and 1952 Track Teams. He was a member of the New Orleans Dental Association, Louisiana Dental Association, American Dental Association, Southern Association of Orthodontics and the American Association of Orthodontics. He was a member of the Bacchus Carnival Krewe, the Four Fins Dental Organization, and a woodworking club. He served as a Captain in the US Air Force. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Francis Xavier, 444 Metairie Road, on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at 12:00 Noon. Friends may visit after 10:00 AM.
