Lawrence Franklin Jelsma

To a very great man, who taught me how to do a lumbar disc operation so well that when the time came ,he asked me to operate on his. A great mentor.

I am so sorry to just now learn of Dr. Jelsma's death. He was on my mind tonight as I was reflecting on my life. When I was only 7 years old I was diagnosed with a brain tumor that was causing me to go blind, along with many other things. I was so scared, but I will never forget Dr. Jelzma's kindness and comfort. He, along with his brother, were able to remove the tumor, but only gave a 50% chance of me regaining my eyesight. After several days my eyesight did return, and all he could say...

I worked with Lawrence at Audubon Hospital from 1984 to 1988. I was a Nurse Anesthetist and did many anesthetics for him. Wonderful surgeon and very easy going. I'm sure he will be missed.

On April 18,1993 Dr.Jelsma performed an emergency craniotomy on me. He stated that I was very lucky to have such a good outcome under the circumstances in which I endured.I am very grateful that he was called that night. My sincerest condolences to his family and friends.
